Dumb Mom’s Guide to Blogging for Good.

So I got these trash bags over here to try out* and, while they are great and all, I can’t really even pretend to be excited by the collection and disposal of garbage.

I mean, sure, it’s a scintillating topic when you’re able to come up with an awesomely earth friendly way to do it; you guys know how all over upcycled clothing I am up in here.

But my homemade terrariums and handmade dog toys are nothing compared to these celebrities that have joined forces with Glad to create amazing art that they are auctioning off in their Mess to Masterpiece Art Auction.

This friends?  Is interesting garbage…

These works of art were made by Jason Mecier from celebre-trash and unique stuff found at nationwide cleanups and they are being auctioned off on eBay with all of the proceeds going to Keep America Beautiful.

Interesting, Eco-Gangsta, and awesome.

But, when you’re just little old me who actively avoids the doing of any task that would require such a large trash bag, and all you can realistically say about the Glad Black Bag is that you’ve noticed that they are extra stretchy and didn’t rip when you spied Dumb Dad dragging them across the yard, it’s really not that interesting.

Sure, it woulda been slightly more entertaining if I could have captured the tantrum he had when the paper bag he used last time ripped and left a trail of soggy leaves in his wake on video, but I didn’t.  Because I was too busy laughing my face off and clutching my belly against the pain of intense laughter.  And this time, he used the big Glad bags and the things held up nicely.  So no fun for us at his expense.

But, totally fun is something Moments in Frames, sponsor of Dumb Mom’s Kidneys, has inspired in the blogogsphere: goodness!

When I shared my story about how kidney disease has affected me and my family earlier this month, I was doing it with the hope that I would be able to help some people with bum kidneys out a teeny little bit.

And I secretly hoped that hundreds of other bloggers would enter their causes to to win support from Moments in Frames as well.

Well, hundreds haven’t really turned up, but five have and each one of them is passionate and exuberant and dedicated to their cause in a way even I didn’t anticipate.

Which means this whole thing?  Was a total success.  And I’m so excited to be a part of something truly done for good; not for washing machines, not for free trips, but for serious goodness.

Maybe I can’t raise the kind of cash Glad’s celebrity trash auction is going to help raise for Keep America Beautiful, but every little bit helps, right?!  RIGHT??!!

Want to be a blogger for good?!

See how these 5 bloggers have taken this opportunity to do it, and then lend them your support in the form of ONE measly comment.  That’s really all it takes to help.

The Frederick Humane Society.  Because pets need money too.  And, if you ask Dumb Dog, they actually need a ridiculous amount of it to live spoiled happily.  FiND iT FREDERiCK Magazine is hoping to raise a bit for their local chapter of the national organization and is asking that you leave a comments to support their efforts.  Dogs will love you.  Cats will love you.  And you may never be attacked by a wild boar if you do this.**  Join FiND iT FREDERiCK in support of the Frederick County Humane Society by leaving a comment on their post: Raise Money for the Humane Society.

Autism Speaks.  This is a charity so many people feel passionate about.  One of those people is Paula, of Perspicacity, who shares her feelings about the organization and why she is travelling this September all the way from Florida to Boston to participate in a marathon as part of the Autism Speaks team.  Please leave a comment for Paula and help her reach her goal: Donate to Autism Speaks.

The National Marfan Foundation.  I connected with Maya ages ago shortly after I got into blogging and she is the person who introduced me to Marfan syndrome.  Since then I have learned so much from her about her daily life challenges, but even more so, I’ve learned what an unbreakable spirit and positive outlook on life she has despite her situation.  Pretty inspiring, right?!  Go check out her blog, learn about her life as a Marfan mom, and support her and her cause by leaving a comment: Support NMF.

The March of Dimes.  If there is a person who can tell you first hand of the life saving work the March of Dimes is responsible for, it’s Jessica.  She has been raising money for this cause and participating in the annual March for Babies for many years and is hopeful that this year she’ll be able to do even more!  Leave a comment to show your support: March for Babies.

The Diaper Bank.  Because seriously, all babies need diapers on their booties!  I can’t even imagine the heartache mothers face when they can’t provide this simple necessity for their children.  Even wearing cloth diapers is expensive in ways you don’t think about, and they aren’t even allowed at many daycare centers.  Karen has donated thousands of diapers herself and is asking you to help her donate even more!  Leave a comment, for babies, for booties, for everyone: Donate a Diaper.

Have a cause you love?  Consider entering it in the #Frames4Good contest.

Or just help us bloggers an Glad with our causes, we’re okay with that too!

*pBd Admits it’s Free:  I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Glad Black Bag and received a Glad Black Bag product and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate. I was also asked to "pin" one (1) Glad Black Bag Art Auction photo on Pinterest."  I’ve been a lover of the Earth and a hater of trash for more years than I can count.

**FiND iT FREDERiCK, parenting BY dummies, and Moments in Frames do NOT guarantee this outcome.  Dogs, cats, and wild boars may hate you for life even if you do leave a comment, but we hope you do it anyway, and pray that you are never victim to a wild boar attack, or any attack for that matter..

Wild boars do sometimes attack people hiking in the nearby national forest. This is a major reason I don’t hike.

  5. Sweet, sweet people helping out other sweet people… and animals. Yay! What’s not to love about that?

  6. Linda Kastiel Kozlowski says:

I will be leaving comments for sure on the very worthwhile sites you listed. Thanks for spreading the word on what these awesome people are up to!

  7. Its amazing sometimes the good we can achieve if we all band together. Honestly, I think a bunch of moms at home on their computers could often achieve more success than big philanthropic foundations with executives yielding salaries we can’t imagine.

  8. That’s great! “Blogging for good” – I love it!
