Because really.
Is there much more American than cowboys?
I don’t think so.
And, there’s also not much more fun than spending a hot Saturday night at the rodeo.
At least not anymore.
Not when you’re the mom of 3 perpetually filthy, rarely quiet, always rambunctious and full of energy Dudes who, if left to their own devices for too long, will find a way to rig your house full of booby traps (they’ve done this once this summer) or draw blood.
Neither of these is a particularly happy (or healthy) way for me to end a day.
So, we do stuff like this instead…
Go out to the farm and watch Dudes in tight pants and heeled shoes get chased silly by humongous beasts with chips the size of Texas on their shoulders.
It’s pretty entertaining.
Despite the heat. And, the smell (you get used to it, I swear). And, the dirt and dust and outdoorsyness of it all (although, this is probably fine for all of you people who like crazy stuff like hiking and camping *cringe*).
Plus, if you drag your husband…
And your parents along…
You get to enjoy all of the people you love at once., and then send your parents on their way and your kids to bed the moment you get home so you can curl up on your couch and ignore your husband while you Tweet and eat cupcakes.
Or whatever.
Have something Wordful to share this weekend?!

It’s fair season here in Podunk KS, which means RODEO time! Hee Haw, ya’ll!
I’ve never been to a rodeo, but it’s on my bucket list. If I actually had a bucket list, which I don’t. But still, I totally want to go.
Oh how FUN! I’ve been to a rodeo a couple of times – would love to take the kids and let them experience it first hand. :) Love all the shots! :)
Through a Lens and a Windshield
LOVE that fourth picture! So cool.
Your husband looks SO thrilled to be at the rodeo with you! Haha.
Ok, I’m an outdoorsy type, camping and whatnot, but the rodeo? It would never have crossed my mind as something to do. Hmmm. I do LOVE me some men in tight pants and pointy shoes!
LOL! You only start ignoring your husband for sweets and the Twitter once you get home? You are a good wife. A good wife, indeed!
I have never once been to a rodeo. I do, however, have a strong desire to get on the mechanical bull at some restaurant at the Harbor.
Rodeo’s are fun, but they don’t have many around here. Fun times!
I’d love to take the boys to a rodeo sometime. We don’t get many that are worth watching up here in Michigan though!
Okay- you are totally right!!! It’s so All American AND with those beautiful flags flying in the back- beautiful imagery! You had me laughing at your last paragraph. I thought I was the only one that ignored the hubs while eating cupcakes :) Only I’m usually on Pinterest or buried in a magazine. But you certainly got the cupcake thing spot on!
Looks like you guys had a blast, we just had our annual county fair {which is the first i’ve ever been too} and it was a blast!
I bet the dudes loved it.
Dumb Dad looks less than impressed…
And, good golly, you and your mom look so much alike in these two pictures.
the rodeo is great once you get past the smell. :-)
What fun! As a TX small town girl, I love a good rodeo!!!!
PS Thanks for the feature as a fave this week!
I haven’t gotten to see a Rodeo in SOOOOO long.
Thanks for sharing your photos.
I’ve never been to a rodeo! Also you do sooo many exciting things all the time. You’re making me feel bad that my kids don’t do enough stuff!
Looks like fun, we don’t have rodeos around here!
Just where did you find a rodeo aroudn here!? We went to the rodeo a few times when we lived in Oklahoma and it was a blast! They are the real PRB deal there. They have an event called Bullnanza…quite a riot to watch.
Wow! Rodeos scare me. But I have a feeling my kids would love it! Looks like fun!
Beautiful Mimi. I love that smile. And I love that you take your boys to the rodeo.
