Because let’s face it, no matter how emo or nonchalant or unique or not-care-y you try to be when it comes to fashion, everyone at least thinks about what they are going to wear to a blogging conference, even if the only thought you have is that you aren’t going to think about it.
Too late, smarty pants, you already did.
I’m not even going to front like I don’t spend a good chunk of time shopping, planning, and thinking about what I am going to wear on the one or two times a year I get to meet people I enjoy connecting with and working with in person.
And it’s okay if you want to look purdy for me too!
I’m not saying you should go all high fashion on me. I’m just saying that it’s totally okay to think about making a good first impression on people when you meet them.
I don’t care if you are wearing Balenciaga shoes or a pair of flip flops from Wal-Mart, but I do hope that you do the whole brush-your-teeth-comb-your-hair-act-like-you-give-a-care bit for me, ya know?
Here’s a look from Type A Parent Conference at what moms like to wear to blogging conferences…

Nice, right?!
Personally, I’ve been shopping for weeks to get ready for BlogHer!
Yeah, yeah, I have a problem.
But, I also have a cool new way to save cash while I enjoy myself by buying prettiness.
Eyeona, is this awesome shopping tool that helps you save money even AFTER you buy stuff (or before, depending on how you work it)!
So let’s say you spend Sunday night online shopping at Aldo (let’s just use one of my favorite shops as an example) and you buy a sweet pair of wedges to get your party on at BlogHer. And then, you go back again on Thursday, because you decided you also need a pair of flats to walk around town in, but when you log on you see that your cute wedges have dropped from $59.95 to $39.95.
At which point you want to kick something.
This is where Eyeona goes to work. Because it watches things you’ve bought (or things you plan to buy) and alerts you when the price drops. So then (here’s the awesome part), you get. Your. Money. Back!
Yeaaaaah Boyeeee!
The process is slightly more technical than that, but you know how I am with details. All you need to know is that, if you use the retailers they suggest (and they have good ones!) and follow the instructions they provide (theirs are 100 times better than mine), then you can easily enjoy a savings!
This works preemptively too (for all of you people who have some control over your impulses and don’t just buy things because they say your name). So you can place items you really want to buy on your “watch list” (which is not at all scary and terrorist-y like it sounds), and Eyeona will alert you when the price goes down.
It’s made me almost entirely guilt free while shopping. Which is bad for Dumb Dad, but so, SO very awesome for me and my psyche.
They are sponsoring my BlogHer wardrobe. And I am shopping like a mofo!
Here are some of the things I’ve got on my watch list. Because I totally already bought them…

And yeah, I better not see any of you rocking these things on the same day as me (if you buy them and you’re going, we should seriously consult!)!
Also a plus, since I’ve actually not been my normally, procrastinating self, I have my junk together and am only taking one suitcase of clothing to NYC for the entire 4 days I will be there!
Can you say smart-packing-clutter-free-genius?!
It can totally be done…
It’s all about outfit coordination. And accessories, of course: lose a jean jacket here, add some sparkles there, switch out the flats for the heels, and bingo-bango you’re a 1940s mob boss ready to rock the day AND the night.
And, nothing in this set costs over $100 (most of it is under $50!). Affordable options you can look fab in before, during, and after the conference that’s what I’m talking about.
How do you save money on clothing, shoes, and accessories for yourself and your family?

You will look GREAT Mama! I use 6pm.com for my shoes and they send me emails and I get in trouble!
Oooh, will have to check that site out! Not that I need any help getting in trouble!
Honestly, if I’m not shopping for the kids, I just pick up random stuff for myself (it takes a concerted effort for me to go to the mall or leave the house alone. I prefer online but then I kinda prefer to try stuff on too. Weirdo). I get coupons and stuff from places I sign up to, but not like Eyeona so I’ll definitely have to check them out. I haven’t even started shopping/packing for BlogHer yet (at least, not outside of things that are in my MIND’S CLOSET).
And, um, one bag? Seriously? Where will the shoes go? I don’t plan on having more than two bags, but I’m thinking maybe my first bag is a whole helluva lot smaller than yours.
I swear it fits. I have gotten so good at doing it thanks to the airline people wanting to charge an arm and a baby to check a bag.
Cute outfits! I doubt if I will get my stuff into one bag! Maybe I will bump into you at blogher!
Yes! Totally have to hi-five you!
I seriously think I’ll be spending all of next week in front of my closet trying to coordinate outfits . . . well, ones that don’t include sweatpants. :P
Have fun! Outfit coordinating is fun. You know, sometimes.
I am so completely jealous.
Yeah I really need to meet you at a conference soon.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this post. That compilation of one suitcase is AWESOME! I feel like I now need to print it out, start all over and replan what I’m wearing. And? That LuckyBrand dress? Drool. Find me when you’re wearing it… I need a picture for my post-blogher post!!!
XOXO — see you soon!
IF I’m wearing it. It’s scheduled to arrive on my door step today and I will cry big ole baby tears if it looks ridiculous.
I’ve been shopping for weeks too! I’m done, and ready as I’ll ever be. Your options are fabulous!
I seriously want your whole suitcase. I LOVE your style (and I’m pretty jealous of your ability to put together an awesome outfit since I myself am style-inept).
I wish I were going to BlogHer. :(
I have no idea what I’m wearing Friday night. None. Zero. Zilch. I bought this super cute (I thought) wrap dress online. I got it in this week and David said, “that looks like a bathrobe.” And he was right. It does look kinda like a bath robe. A really bad fitting bath robe. I’m going to send it back (I hope). I’m waiting on one more dress to come in, but it will probably be for Saturday. I’m good for the day though.
This year I’m varying my shoe wearing options. Which basically means I’m bringing more shoes. Last year I had planned to wear the one pair and then they turned out to be evil. I don’t want to be stuck like that this year.
Yeah, it seems no matter how comfy I think my shoes are at home, they miraculously become evil when I get to blog conferences. I need to work in a way to do more sitting at these things only I usually can’t because I’m too busy running up to people to give them hugs and dropping it like it’s hot at parties!
Dude! How cool that your wardrobe is sponsored!! I’m TOTALLY jealous…..and…can we work on a deal for both of us when I make my return to the scene next year? :-) You are going to be rockin’ it mama! Can’t wait to hear all about it!!!
I don’t know if I’m going to be hitting BlogHer next year. Guess it depends on where it’s at! But, we’ll work something out!
Amazing outfits!!! I need to hire you as my fashion expert please?! :) I have NO idea what I’m wearing but I plan on shopping from the closet of my friend who is not going to BlogHer and currently pregnant now. She has no use for her normal size close right now…score for me. She also has way more style than I do so it will be fun shopping in her closet. Now to figure out the shoes for my tiny feet. Sigh… Those wedges are amazing. I’m not sure I could even stand in those though. Whats the secret?
That’s exactly how I wound up on WNTW. My friend got sick of me shopping her closet! I’d love to go shopping with you though!
Oh that would be so much fun! I’m sure you could show me a lot. I have lots to learn. Now only if I had a fully loaded Master Card like on WNTW! :)
Dang girl! You are going to look fabulous! I wish I could go to hang out with your fine self in person, but I can’t go. Maybe next year.
We need to hang out somewhere. How about you just come to my house and we’ll go shopping and junk?!
I like that idea! Too bad we don’t live closer!
Fabulous. All of it. :)
I love the shoes the most. I don’t shop for my self much but I have been trying to remake my old outfits. I am teaching myself to alter things. You would be surprise how you can make simple outfits look new.
I wish I could alter things. I am good at revitalizing outfits with jewelry or belts and stuff, but actually using a needle and thread or a, um, sewing machine? No way!
Seems like all stores are always having a sale these days. I’m sure the last time I paid full prices for something. Oh and I love Marshall’s and T.J. Maxx! :)
It’s funny that I just read this because I JUST finished putting my outfits together for blogher TODAY! YAY! So excited!!
80% of everything I wear comes from TJ Maxx, Ross, or Marshalls. Other than that it’s Target or H&M. I’m going to be rocking a dress I got for $5.99 at Ross during BlogHer and it’s one of my faves!
5.99 is a GREAT deal!! I need to hit up our thirft store, TJ Maxx and Ross this weekend to see if I can find a few new outfits.
Whoa – so dang awesome! Cannot wait to hug you again very soon! xo
I am going to finish up my Blogher wardrobe this weekend. I’m going to TRY ond suitcase. But I don’t know……. See you there!!!!
This sounds like a great tool! Enjoy the conference!
Ok, so can I take you shopping with me for my next conference attire? You’re going to look super cute :-) Have a blast at BlogHer! Wish I was there too, but we’ll hang again soon.!!
