Wordful Wednesday. A Dude in Brooklyn.

The Dude #3 lemonade stands have officially come to a close for the year.

Summer is ending and, as much as we’ve loved hosting #3’s weekly street stand, it’s time to kiss it goodbye.

But, at least we got to send it off with a bang!

We Amtrak-ed it up to NYC last week to take his lemonade stand on the road to Brooklyn to see our homies at Little Duck Organics.

They are doing some pretty neat things that they asked us to be a part of and, since everyone knows their ain’t no party like a-little-Dude in a bow-tie-selling-lemonade-on-the-street-party hurrah, we decided we pretty much just had to oblige.

Add to that the fact that my #3 and I are always up for an adventure (we ditched the big Dudes at home for some serious guy time with dad), we headed to the train station and went to rock NYC for the day…

When we arrived to Penn Station, I had to bust out my world-traveler-boots and figure out how to get from downtown to Brooklyn via the subway.

The NYC subway system is only slightly less difficult to navigate than the Paris Metro and this is only the case because I actually speak English and didn’t have to run up to random people saying, “Parlez-vous anglais” a bazillion times.

Fortunately, my panic eyes convinced an NYC train worker to take pity on me and direct us to the correct train.

And people say New Yorkers aren’t nice!

She was plenty nice, especially after she rolled her eyes, her neck, and her lips at me.

Once we boarded our first train, I had time to figure the rest of our trip out and #3 had time to play…

And practice his 90s dance moves…

We made it to Brooklyn without a hitch…

And then proceeded to walk the street like homeless people explore the neighborhood while waiting to meet up with our LDO friends…

IMG_6069

That part of Brooklyn is so shot up interesting!  There were plenty of rats pigeons to chase…

Tons of unique graffiti art work…

And, even some authentic Brooklyn small businesses to avoid thanks to the puke-inducing smell explore…

IMG_6068

We even got some time to do some sweet jumps on the pier…

And enjoy the NYC skyline…

IMG_6073

We were super happy when it was finally time to sell lemonade, even if business was sorta slow…

IMG_6077

Things really started to look up when the kids showed up though…

IMG_6078

All in all, I’d say #3 rocked Brooklyn like a boss…

But, that’s sorta just his thing, ya know?!

  1. He is totally a lemonade boss…but holy cow, where did they have you? It looks pretty darn shady.

Granted the graffiti wall is super cool!

Glad you got some solo dude #3 time.

  2. Always love your instagram pics, but these are awesome!

  3. Lovin’ the graffiti wall! But I think I would meltdown trying to navigate the subway–I only managed the one in Moscow because I had a guide (and even then there might have been some sleep deprived sniveling).

  4. I’m pretty sure I cannot even handle his coolness. I don’t know how you do it!!

  5. Cute!! I love these!! So fun!

  6. hahahaahah!!! loved this story Amanda! He sure did rock it! And glad you made it over there safe. I’m terrified of the subway. I rode it once while at BlogHer and that was only because the people I followed from a party chose to ride it. So I followed them like a poor, lost puppy :)

  7. The subway lady rolled her eyes, neck and lips?! Dang. That’s serious. And hi-larious.
Thank sweet baby Jesus y’all were there in the afternoon. That neighborhood looks a little…desolate.

LOVE the pictures. All of them. Like a Boss indeed. But seriously though, what the hell is Live Poultry Laughter?

  8. So special to have some time with just your youngest boy!

  9. The graffiti pictures are amazing!! Great shots!I think the last one is my fav though

  10. Call me crazy, but I really like graffiti. Not that you see much of it here in Utah! I think it makes a fantastic photo backdrop.

  11. I should clarify… I like graffiti as long as it isn’t crude or dirty. So I guess you could say I only like good graffiti (like I am a graffiti connoisseur or something). Haha!

  12. What are sweet blog you have. Your photos are amazing.

  13. Some friends of ours just moved to Brooklyn. They moved out of our neighborhood because it wasn’t safe enough. To Brooklyn.

    Nice tie.

I’m dying to see the city. Hope Allyson will let me visit.

  14. That looks like quite the adventure! :) And what a handsome little man he is! :)

  15. He is just too freaking adorable. Pic #10 is my absolute favorite.

  16. Just once I would like to take a picture with even an ounce of the talent that you have. What a fun time you had!!!

  18. You got some really cute pictures of your little guy! It helps that he’s such a cutie! So much fun.

  19. All of these pics are SO great!! Now the big city of NY scares me a bit (country girl here)…but the photos are amazing :)

  20. That bow tie gets me every time. EVERY TIME.

  21. Awesome day! I love that one of him pointing next to the graffiti.

  24. Um seriously these are freakin great!! what a fun experience and kind of shady too. Love the grafiti walls though. Totally reminds me of the hood I grew up in. Your little too is too adorable for words.

  25. He is such a cutie!!

I love that pic of the lemonade stand with just him and the graffiti in the background, what a great shot.

  26. Love the pics. He is going to be a lemonade mogul before we know it!
