Afro.
Kidding.
No afros.
At least not over here. Not today anyway.
But, I do have polka dots!
I have been a lover of the polka dot since they were popular in the 90s.
Rocked them then and, possibly against better judgment (you know what they say about wearing trends you were around for the first time), I am rocking them now.
They are just so much fun.
And, as long as you don’t pair them with blue eye shadow, hot pink lipstick, fingerless gloves, or anything made out of tulle (which I will take a written vow to never again rock in seriousness, only in jest) you should be good even if you are old mature like me.
This classic cut, polka dot shirt is from the Foxcroft Collection. And, the fun red jacket with it’s polka dotted lining, is from one of my favorite places on earth: Marshall’s (I snagged it for $13!).
I love that the shirt is so versatile; I can wear it casual like this, or as part of a more professional look with slacks or a skirt and a blazer. And, I love the added color pop the jacket gives to whatever I decide to wear it with (even if I roll down the sleeves to prevent a polka-dot onslaught).
What don’t I love? That I can’t ever do anything alone in this house, including take a pee snap a photo, without the kid or the dog photobombing me.
The positive to this situation is that I’m sure their presence distracts your eye from my tummy area, like a fun color or a ruched top would.
Finally their interdependence on me comes in handy for something!
Back to polka dots.

And yes, as sweaty and squeaky as they may sound, leather shorts are in. I don’t have any yet myself, but I am seriously considering going on that fashion adventure with a faux pair (real is too much of an investment for the number of times I plan to wear them).

Leather shorts? Good lord. That is one fashion trend I don’t think I can bring myself to try. I’m way to conservative for that. I’ll stick with my cotton bermudas or capris. ;-)
I always wanted a pair of leather pants when I was younger. I think with tights I could do it. Or, I would attempt to at least!
I’ve seen the leather shorts but it ain’t been pretty. I hope this is not making way for the leather skirts to return (because as many flat tops as I’ve seen on teenage boys and the (gulp) stirrup pants on teenage girls, I fear they’re trying to take over the world one long forgotten fashion trend at a time). But the shorts I can get with (even though I rarely IF EVER wear shorts. I am so serious). Anyway, I love a good polka dot (as long as I don’t look like I’m in a Kwame video).
Yes, there is a kid in my neighborhood hat has a step in his hair! That better not make a come back. It wasn’t THAT flattering the first time! And I was totally thinking about that Kwame video! Wasn’t sure people would even know who he was. Only yoooooou!
Cute! I’ll take a polka dot blouse or dress or top or….anytime. :)
I’d take a hug from a little one too.
He wasn’t hugging me. He was clutching onto my legs and attempting to block me from taking a photo so I would instead go inside and put Peppa Pig on. He’s obsessed! With me AND the pig!
I’d wear the heck out of some leather shorts. Love that color on you!
Leather shorts. So could I just take the suspenders off my lederhosen?
With all due respect, I have a dim memory of a leather skirt that made me the boss of the world.
Do what you must.
That cracks me up and brings back some memories or my days living in Europe. Can’t believe a whole nation of people still think that is an acceptable fashion statement.
You probably would look awesome in lederhosen. Not sure what Mimi is complaining about!
I’m loving the polka-dots lately, too.
And that blazer is amazing. $13? Must get myself to Marshalls. Stat.
I live in Marshall’s. Accept for when I take brief breaks to go to T.J. Maxx, Ross, or H&M!
Love that red blazer on you! Nice pop of color for sure – I do have to agree on the leather shorts thing…not sure I could do it. I’m not a fan of anything leather other than a boot or handbag. Not even a jacket….I may be getting old….
I have 2 leather jackets. I love them both. One of them I got from the show, one I got since. I probably can’ actually pull off leather shorts, but I think hey are adorable on other people!
Polka dots are my favorite. Next to you.
Awwww, aren’t you sweet! You’re my favorite too! You should ditch Texas and move to Maryland so we can be real life buds.
Personally, I feel that one is never too old or too young to enjoy polka dots! They are classic and you look great!!! ~Sarah
Thanks! And I agree. I love how fun they look!
Love the red jacket with the polka dots- this is adorable!
Love the red jacket with the polka dot shirt- this is adorable!
Hi Amanda!
You look fab in that outfit, I love the pop of color you get from the jacket, too. My experience with leather is that it always stretches out of shape before long, so don’t invest too much $- faux is a good way to go!
