Wordful Wednesday. Grandparents are Sorta Old, But Tons of Fun.

The Dudes are so lucky to have grandparents that love them and set aside plenty of time to get them outta my hair enjoy their company.

They are blessed to have two full sets.  One in California, and one in West Virginia (and WV jokes are permitted; we’re not natives).

We live a little less than an hour away from Mimi and Papa and I can’t even think of a more than two week period since the birth of #1 where we didn’t see them; unless we or they were on vacation.

I’m sure it’s my awesome daughtering that has kept them around all of these years, but they are certainly attached to The Dudes now too.

They come to games, they take them to movies, they don’t miss birthday parties, graduation ceremonies, or any other milestones people like to celebrate with people who think they’re cool.

They’ve always been there for The Dudes in those ways, and so many others.

Mimi was even in the delivery room when #1 made his entrance into this world (and thank goodness because Dumb Dad had to tap out briefly).

Grandparent’s Day is coming up this Sunday.

It’s not something we really celebrate, but maybe we should start.

I honestly don’t know what The Dudes would do without their grandparents; they seriously make their lives (and mine) awesome and, according to The Dudes anyway, are the only reason they ever get to do anything fun.

Sure, I was there for all of this stuff (who do you think is working the camera), but somehow, no one ever remembers that!

Time to link up!

And, visit my cohost, Seven Clown Circus.

And, enjoy some of our faves from last week…

  1. We’re lucky we have two sets of grandparents all within a short drive too. We also have 2 great-grandmothers that we see regularly. Can’t beat having those kinds of ties!

And I can see where you get your beautiful smile from, Amanda!

  2. How fun! Cute photos.

  3. Such precious pictures and so wonderful that your boys have grandparents so close and so present in their lives!

  4. Thanks for choosing me as one of your favourites! How exciting! Love your photos!

  5. How cool they’ve had awesome quality time with their grandparents! This is one of the many reasons why I can’t wait to move back to the Seattle area where my parents are, so the kids can hang out with old people while they’re still young enough to appreciate it. Oh, and to have some great memories, too. ;)

    • I’m so happy I was able to have The Dudes young, that way my mom and dad could still be young enough to enjoy it too! My mom even goes on field trips with my boys.

  6. So sweet! My son has one set of grandparents who live nearby, but sadly the other set of grandparents live across the Atlantic Ocean. Which serves me right for being an expat I suppose! We got to fly over and spend all summer with them this year though :)

  7. Aw thank you for the shoutout! :)

  8. The Dudes are lucky. We’ve got both sets, but they are 14 hours away by car..it’s both good and bad!

    • Ugh, that is so far! I love that Mimi & Papa are only an hour because when we get tired of them we can go home. And, vice versa!

  9. Thanks for the reminder about Grandparent’s Day. I almost always forget, and then feel bad.

My boys are so lucky to have involved grandparents as well. Growing up, we lived far from my dad’s parents, and they weren’t really involved, and my mom’s parents had both passed, so I didn’t have that bond.

    • How long has Grandparent’s Day been around. We never celebrated it growing up. I need o find out if it’s a newish thing or if we were just neglecting our grandparents all of this time?

  10. I think it’s so great that they get all that time with them. Making memories that will stay with them forever. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents & always thought my parents would be like that with my kids. Unfortunately that is not the case- so when I see images like this it warms my heart!

  11. Aww, great pics. Grandparents are the best :)

  12. Always a fan of the grands.

My dad’s Mom was the rock of my life.

I hope to be like her one day.

  13. Love it! I didn’t have that special bond with my grandparents but my kids do with my parents. It’s a special thing.

  14. I am grateful that my children still have both sets of grandparents (even though they only see my mother, who lives 25 minutes away on birthdays and holidays AND NO, I DO NOT WANT TO TALK ABOUT WHY OMG GET OFF MY BACK). Everyone is local, no one being more than 30 minutes away and I am glad that my kids act normal enough for them all to be allowed into their homes (sometimes entry is denied to the boy or there are threats to put his whiny butt out but that never lasts long). I do try to get lots of pictures so they’ll be able to look back and see just how much happiness there was to have had so many people who love them around.

  15. You really are so lucky to have them so close! My kids grandparents all live five to seven hours away. I guess that’s not so bad but I really do dream of living in the same town as the grandparents. As it is, my kids usually see one set at least once a month, but it always ends in tears and them being depressed for a day or two because Mimi or Nama have gone home :(

  16. i have not commented in so long i almost feel out of place. what a great thing for the little ones. how fun!

  17. You are so blessed. It looks like they have a blast with your guys!

  18. My parents arrive for a visit tomorrow. And my kids cannot WAIT. I think it’s mostly because my Dad usually gives them money, but hey, whatever works! ;)

Glad your kids have a such a great time with their grandparents too!

  19. Grandparents ARE sorta old, but tons of fun! These are some great pictures. My kids had a blast spending a week with my in-laws last month. It’s so cool.

  20. Our kids are lucky enough to have two sets too, but they are not nearly as cool as your kids’ grandparents. What a blessing for them (and for you!)

  21. Grandparents are awesome! My husband still has one set left…. he has no idea how lucky he is to have them.
My kids have more grandparents then I can count… guess that’s what happens when you’re divorced and remarried!

  22. My kids spend tons and tons of time with my mom. David’s dad doesn’t come around as much (or have near enough energy to deal with them), and my stepmom lives an hour away. I wish they had more grandparents that could take an active role in their lives, but it just didn’t work out that way.
