Mom Chic on the Street. Spot the $30 Jeans.

So, I need some new jeans.

Sadly, my very favorite, most comfortable and well fitting pair, is one I got from Madewell.  They currently retail online for about $125.

I do not have $125 for one pair of jeans.

Maybe for a pair of boots, a cute top, a nice crossbody bag, and…

Yeah, I could buy one pair of jeans, OR, I could buy an entire outfit.

Point is, the price tag was sorta messing with me.

And, after finding myself in an Old Navy unexpectedly really hoping there would be someone to challenge to a dance off, I came up with the bright idea that I should maybe take a look at all of the jeans.

The really inexpensive jeans!

After trying on every style they sale, I finally bought 3 pairs some!

And, after trying them on at home and dressing them up with my new favorite purple blazer ($29.99 at TJ Maxx, woot!), I decided to put you guys to the test!

I took shots of myself wearing my brand new, Old Navy jeans that cost me a little under $30.  And then, I took some with my not as new, Joe’s Jeans. They cost about $158.

So tell me, which pair is the $30 pair of jeans (the bootcuts or the skinnys)?!

bootcut1 bootcut2

skinnys 1 skinnys2

Leave your guess (and hopefully a little explanation) in the comments and I will reveal the truth next Friday!

There’s no prize if you guess right, but I will be all ooooh-in-yo-face if you guess wrong.  So, there’s that.

Feel free to tell me where you snagged your favorite pair of jeans.  Clearly I’m looking to buy!

  1. Ok, so my guess is the skinnies are Joe’s. I LOVE Joe’s jeans. I can’t really afford them though, so my favorite place to buy jeans is BP at Nordstrom. I mean, it is like the Juniors section which feels a little weird, but they carry Vigoss jeans and those look really nice for about $50-60 a pair.

  2. It’s tough. I think the bootcuts are the $30 jeans.

There is way too much lycra in jeans now. I can put on a tourniquet in the bedroom and they will be so stretched out I have to keep one hand on the waistband by the time I get to the car.

The last good pair of jeans I had was some Tommy Hilfiger baggy jeans in like….1998. That’s probably not true, but they were 4′s.

Levi’s Shrink to Fit 501′s are back in the men’s department at Dillard’s for $60-ish. The last pair I had cost $28, and came from the Farm and Home.

    Jeans are a crazy business.

  3. I’m also guessing the ON jeans are the bootcuts. If you had taken a rear view, I could be more confident in my guess…and not just because of the stitching on the pockets. ON and GAP have some weird sized pockets.

My favorite jeans before I got preggo were a tie between Express and American Eagle.

  4. I only own two pairs of jeans, both inexpensive, both from Nordstrom on a clearance rack because they were the last in that size so I got an additional percentage off. I couldn’t even tell you the brand name and they’re both over 5 years old. While I like jeans, I am not able to wrap my mind around more than, say, $60 and that’s a stretch (although yes, I will pay $100+ for boots or a nice coat or a lasting purse).

My guess is the boot cuts are ON. They both look great on you.

  5. I just have to say, I love those wedges! :-)

  6. love your look! The purple jacket rocks!

  7. I totally can’t tell the difference, but I am going to guess the bootcuts are the Old Navy ones. I do think that Premium Denim can be worth it as when you find a pair that fit they fit amazingly. But most of my pairs I have scored at Winners (our TJMAxx) or on consignment.

  8. I have no idea which are more expensive because I suck games like this (which is why I stick with the cheapies anyway). All I know is that I want those skinnies!

  9. Love both looks! I would guess the skinnies are ON just because the store is filled with them right now. ;)

My fave jeans are pull on jeggings from Walmart (gasp). They are so comfy and easy and they were $12. ;) What can I say, I am cheap and I hate normal jeans. They never fit right.

  10. Kendra Jackson says:

I think the skinny jeans are old navy. You rocked both styles though :) I love the shoes, bows are my favorite!!!!!

  11. Hmmm… I am stumped! I would say the old navy jeans are the boot cuts. I love joes jeans! I got mine at Nordstrom Rack for $79! Still high but half the price!

  12. I think the Skinnies are your Old Navy and the Bootcut are the more expensive jean…. Why do I have to wait until next Friday to find out dang it!

  13. I’m guessing the skinnies are the pricey ones. I have to say my favorite jeans are Express jeans, with lots of coupons and a sale otherwise they’re like $80 I think. But I love them.

  14. Bootcuts are the cheaper pair, but it would be easier to tell if we had a booty shot.

  15. Totally can’t tell which pair is more expensive, I hope whichever you choose it is the one you feel the best in!

I have been buying my jeans at thrift stores recently. They are all high end and well made, but ‘worn-in’ (used) so cheap.

  16. I’m guessing the boot cut are ON. I like to score designer jeans on ebay.:-) I am also a huge fan of Silver’s jeans. You can get them at Macy or the buckle or on line. They come in waist to inseam like premium but for a $60-$80 price.

  17. Skinnys! Only b/c i tried on a pair that look similar in Old Navy too! lol!

  18. I think the boot cuts are the Old Navy….
and I too am always looking for a little dance off action in the Old N….one day we shall cross paths and it will be on…

  19. The bootcuts are the ON jeans. A rear view would help me decide for sure because the pockets are telling. Nicer jeans tend to have much better pocket placement and sizing. It’s also difficult to tell if there is any whiskering because of the filter on the photos. Good whiskering is another tell-tale sign of good jeans.

  20. I don’t know but you look amazing in both! I will say I like you more in the skinnies, but that’s just my preference. I shop at the Unique Thrift so I’m not the best judge.
