BFF and I have been together for over 20 years.
Longer than I’ve been a mother. Longer than I’ve been with Dumb Dad. Even longer than I’ve been awesome (she met me in my goofy years, aka middle school).
We don’t get to spend much time together these days.
I’m busy mommying and taking afternoon naps stuff. And, she’s busy like having a job or whatever. Plus, we live about an hour apart from each other and she spends most of her weekends planning a wedding (hooray, she’s getting hitched), while I spend my weekends NOT cleaning my house and hanging out with my dudes.
Every now and then we get to catch a movie or hit up a Justin Timberlake concert (August 8th, baby! We are SOOOO there!), or something, but it’s just hard, ya know?
I wish I could say that I’ve made it my goal to make more time to meet up with friends, but lemme just keep it real here: so not gonna happen. Not in person anyway. We both understand that we have other commitments and priorities that keep that from happening as often as we’d like. But, I guess that’s how you know when you have a bestie for life; our relationship remains strong even if we don’t have time to be within fist bumping distance that often.
Plus, hello, we have technology! It’s super easy for BFF and I to stay connected because we talk every day of life. Her boss maybe doesn’t know this, but they pay her to talk to me on the phone at least once a day. Plus we text, and email, and some times we even Tweet with each other. No lie…
This weekend we somehow got to have a little girl’s night in. And, by girl’s night in, I mean she came to my house, we had some drinks (not the alcoholic sort, silly, we’re on Weight Watchers! We sipped on these 0 Point Lipton Diet Green Teas instead), and hid from The Dudes in my bedroom closet.
I wish I could say that we were catching up on inspiring episodes of Kourtney & Kim Take Miami Oprah’s Lifeclass while having calorie free tea cocktails together in my hooked up bedroom with it’s comfy seating area and extra large TV. But, everyone knows things you see on Pinterest aren’t real…

And, unlike my tween son, I don’t even have a TV in my bedroom. And, I certainly don’t have my own man chick cave to relax in, or even a playroom to retreat to. All I have is a laundry room to hideout in (seriously, they never even bother to look for me in there since, based on the lack of clean clothing we have around here it’s the last place they think I’d be; all part of my master plan) and the only time I even get to watch the Kardashians what I like is when everyone goes to bed. And then? It takes me 3 days to finish one episode of Duck Dynasty because it only takes me about 8 minutes to fall asleep when left alone.
Go away off topic rant!
Anyway, instead of watching a chick flick, BFF and I were together, talking about dream weddings, and sharing clothes. It actually was pretty awesome and so much like the good old days…
Only with more facial hair, and chins, and glasses, and kids and junk.
