Last week I shared my Super Mario YouTube videos are bad for kids horror story.

Because they are. Totally.

Okay, probably not totally, but at least potentially. Because, really, you just never know.

You can’t tell from the thumbnail if the video is gonna be all nerdy-tweenagers-cussing-anonymously-so-their-mommies-don’t-find-out or not until you click on it and hear said tweens using creative cuss words while racing Super Mario Karts like the bad boys they imagine themselves to be.

But, for whatever reason, little kids love YouTube. I did a little poll on Facebook(because that’s where I get most of my valuable information) asking parents which sites their kids preferred, and YouTube was one of the most popular sites.

So, we need good solutions, right?

Solutions that allow our kids to enjoy the joys of the Internet without causing them long lasting psychological turmoil.

Not that I actually think cussing Mario is going to scar my kids at all, but still. I don’t want them watching it. I do, however, want them to be able to hop online from time to time.

In a more controlled environment.

Featuring content I am okay with them viewing.

While I do something super important like read just one more chapter of Silver Linings Playbook before book club cook dinner or finish up some work.

Enter the The Official LEGO® Channel!

They watch it constantly. Just this weekend they’ve viewed this one ridiculous Ninjago video no less than 8 times.

Clearly, it’s a hit.

Along with many of the others they’ve got on there for your kids’ viewing pleasure.

I love that the videos are centrally located on one channel (I already added the channel to my CocoonKids White List) so I don’t have to worry about them stumbling upon some crazy courtesy of the mysterious YouTube search function. They start typing in that search bar and you never know what kind of naked-lady-potty-mouth-princess malarkey is going to come up.

Even cooler? You can easily create a playlist for your kids. This way, younger kids who can’t spell anything other than their names and butt (true story, don’t ask) can easily access the videos they like. And, it’s easier to monitor their content viewing (especially when you pair your playlist with the CocoonKids white list) because you can create a playlist of videos you approve of for them to interact with.

And yes, as all of you 5 and under owners out there, your kids will happily watch the same videos (or read the same books), over, and over, and over again so it’s perfect like that too.

Have a LEGO® lover at your house you want to impress? Set them up a playlist and then try some of these other LEGO® inspired ideas:

1. Build a LEGO® table. For storage and beauty. I have an easy to follow Lego table tutorial to get you started.

2. Buy a LEGO® ideas book. The Dudes got one for Christmas and it takes up pretty solid chunks of time. I’m a fan of things that take up time and don’t lead to fighting!

3. Have a LEGO® party. We are planning one for #2’s 8th birthday here at the house. There will be a LEGO® build off, LEGO® cupcakes, LEGO® decorations. Pretty much exactly like the LEGO® birthday I saw on Pinterest. Or, we will go to the movies. Depends how I’m feeling come March.

4. Try a LEGO® board game. We are the proud owners of two that we have never actually played. What tends to happen is that they haul them out, take 20 minutes to prepare the board for play, and then spend another 20 just playing with the board. By that time they are ready to clean it up and put it away before they’ve even taken one for real turn! 40 minutes of bickering-free fun, you won’t see me complaining!

5. Make your own LEGO® building video! Because if your kids are anything like my kids they are obsessed with making videos and taking photos of themselves being ridiculous. I have no idea where they get THAT from!
