Wordful Wednesday. Keeping It Real Seal.

hey girl

I’m always looking for easier ways to get better nutrition into the dudes.

If it were up to them we’d probably eat BBQ chicken and Cinnamon Toast Crunch with M&Ms in it for dinner every night.

Go ahead and gag. You know you want to.

But actually, Cinnamon Toast Crunch is pretty tasty with M&Ms mixed in and everything is tasty if you BBQ it.  I mean, that’s what I hear anyway.

As hard as it is to believe, it’s even harder for me to make sure they don’t survive on skittles and Popsicles during the summer than it is during the busy school year.
We are just so busy laying around in our jammies all day watching 80s movies and Austin and Ally marathons being active and traveling and enjoying life outdoors and away from the house during the summer that sometimes dinner gets pushed to the side.

When this happens pretty much every day I find myself scrambling around the kitchen trying to pretend I did something important all day looking for something quick and NOT in hot dog form to serve them.  Or, we just have ice cream for dinner!

ice cream for dinner

I like to spring the treat on the dudes when my motivation to cook is entirely nonexistent as a surprise for good behavior.  Or, as a culmination to an otherwise perfect day.  Or just because I say so.

And, in case you’re wondering I never ever feel guilty about it. If we’re out, we stop and get it at the parlor where they serve organic, farm fresh ice cream and toppings we love.  Nothing to feel bad about there!  Plus it’s National Ice Cream month which means guilt free ice cream gut stuffing is in full effect!

If we’re home, I go for the home churned one or we make it ourselves with milk and fresh strawberries. Except for #3 who abhors ice cream (I know, right?!), he goes for strawberry shortcake instead!

  1. Ice cream for dinner sounds perfect to me! I recently dug out my ice cream attachment for my kitchen aide mixer and made fresh peach frozen yogurt. It was so good. Next up is chocolate ice cream.

  2. Local, farm fresh ice cream? Wow… we don’t have anything like that here!

    Now I need ice cream!

    • We live in a rural county. Sometimes we actually go bottle feed the baby cows ourselves too.

  3. It’s 5:18am and I’m craving ice cream now, darn it! We’ve done a lot of cereal and sandwiches for dinner this summer. Isn’t that what summer is for? :)

  4. My kids seem to be living on cereal this summer. And popsicles. It’s lovely. :)

    • You know the kid won’t eat popsicles either. Cold things are just not okay with him.

  5. Oooooh YUM! But I better not tell Princess Nagger about the Cinnamon Toast Crunch with M&M’s, because she’d be all over that. ;) Ice cream is the perfect treat – though I have to admit, if given a choice I’d be with #3 and the strawberry shortcake. ;) Thanks so much for the shout-out! :)

    • I am not a fan of strawberry shortcake, or any dessert with fruit in it really, but he LOVES it. It’s actually the only way he will even eat strawberries.

  6. I’ve never done ice cream for dinner but cereal is in constant rotation, during the summer months. Don’t judge me!
