What to Wear to a Rehearsal Dinner.

I am wholly unprepared to play best girl in BFF’s wedding.

I just know so very little about weddings and wedding behaviors.  And, wedding décor.  And wedding attire.

Previously, I asked for guidance on my best girl dress.

In case you haven’t heard, we went with the strapless.

I have already begun to regret it as I envision myself spending hours at the wedding tugging and pulling and clutching at myself to keep the girls from rolling up or, more tragically, rolling down at any point before, during, or following the ceremony.  I imagine I will be a sweaty mess.  And, chiffon taffeta frilly dress material doesn’t look awesome when you’re sweating.  Nor does my hair for that matter.

I’ve proposed that we order metallic track suits to rock at the reception for each member of the wedding party.  I’ve not heard back on this, but I’m guessing the answer is a definitive, Oh helllll naw at this point.

All of this in mind, I’m making a concentrated effort to not screw up my other wedding related attire.  First off, I need to figure out what to wear to a rehearsal dinner.  And, by I, I mean you because I’m expecting you to help me!

Here are the particulars…

Wedding date: November, towards the end.

Location: Austin, Texas.

Venue: some indoor restaurant-y place.

Budget: $0 (totally not realistic, but note, I’m trying desperately to NOT spend anything more than I already have to).

Options:  One of the below, already owned, dresses…

I’ll wear a cardigan if it’s chilly.

Or, maybe I should purchase all one of these…

Wedding rehearsal dresses

Left to Right: Ellen Tracy Sheath Dress ($108), Calvin Klein Printed Dress ($100.99), Ellen Tracy Cap Sleeve Dress ($87.99), Calvin Klein Faux-Leather Dress ($112.99), and Sunny Leigh Dress ($58.99)

The good news is that all of them are available at Macy’s so I can purchase them through Ebates and get 6% cash back, thereby convincing DudeDad that we are actually saving money by buying me a new dress!

Weigh in here, peeps, I promise to listen this time!

  1. Well I have to say that both of the dresses you already own look great! But who doesn’t need/want and excuse to buy a new one? :)

  2. I actually really love the first dress that you own!

  3. You’re coming to Texas. For a wedding. That I’m not invited to. Can you feel my pout all the way over there?

And I like the Sunny Leigh. Because I think you look fantastic in those colors. And it will work well in Austin. But I’m still pouting. Yes. Even though Austin is like four hours from me.

  4. I’m a big fan of layering so you’re prepared for anything, which is probably why I’m loving look one with a cardigan. If you’re chilly you’ve got the cardigan. If it’s hot for some crazy reason (whether it be body heat from all the excited rehearsal dinner peeps hugging and chatting you up or the room is just super warm or you’ve had a cocktail or two), you can go wild and get rid of the cardigan.

Also, if you’re looking for an excuse to buy something, the middle Ellen Tracy dress is cuuuuuuuute.

  5. I like both of those dresses a lot, but I probably like the sleeveless one a bit more…with a cardi would be perfect! But both look absolutely great, I don’t think you can go wrong either way.

  6. I think you can wear your dress with the sleeves or the Calvin Klein blue printed dress. I also like the Ellen Tracey cap sleeve dress.

  7. I love the cap sleeve dress. It’s enough colour to pop. It’s got arm coverage. It’s fashionable. And you’d rock it. You’d rock a paper bag with glitter but I don’t suggest wearing that unless you like crotch drafts.
    I wouldn’t know.
    No I wouldn’t.

  8. I love the last dress in the row of dress. The blue patterned dress is super cute.

  9. Beautiful dress and it’s perfect for the rehearsal dinner!!!! Thank you for sharing this gorgeous look with Monday Bloom!!!

  10. I like the first one. It would look especially good with a colored cardigan.

  11. I like the first one you already own with a shrug or the last one by Sunny Leigh.

  12. Nicole O'Brien says:

i LOVE the Ellen Tracy dress! the colors are perfectly beautiful!
and its a dress you can wear over and over, therefore its an INVESTMENT!

  13. I am kind of in love with the Ellen Tracy Sheath dress. I love that color and think that it will look fabulous on you.

  14. I know I’m old fashioned, and it’s not really the popular opinion anymore, but I still can’t stand it when people wear black to a wedding. I know the justifications behind it: we all look fabulous and slim in black. But we are not there to be the center of attention, are not there to hook up (if it happens, fine, but that is not the prime directive), and it’s not a funeral. By all means look fabulous, but try and pull it off in happier color!

    • Alright, so NOT the black one then! I am kinda leaning towards sleeves anyway since it will be nearly December.

  15. I live in Austin and weather in Nov can be anything from 50-70 outside but the AC is always on inside. Also, Austin is much more casual of a city than I’ve experienced elsewhere. Error on the side of casual and always have a cardigan on hand!

    • Thanks for the insider info! Here’s the only thing, she’s NOT from Austin, or even Texas and none of her friends are either, so I don’t want to be the schlumpy under dressed one. I’ve been that person WAY too many times!
