Puppy Lovely. Get Fit with Your Pooch.

“If you get me a dog, I’ll finally have someone to exercise with.”

Liar, liar, pants on fire.

But, those were the words I said to DudeDad over and over and over again, for months straight, in an attempt to convince him we needed a puppy.

Eventually it was, “Fine, you’re right, we don’t need a puppy.  We need another baby instead! I want a daughter,” that worked in my favor.

He agreed to get me the American Bulldog/Boxer mix puppy that I found on Craigslist, if I’d get off him about making another human.

We picked her up on my birthday two and a half years ago and she’s been my Baby Dog Daughter ever since.

And, as such, she spends more time wrapped around my legs with her head in my lap than she does on a leash helping me get fit.

We don’t really like to sweat.  Or get dirty.  Or be outside when it’s hot.  Or cold.  Or sunny.  Or windy.  Baby Dog Daughter and I prefer soft blankets.  And the couch.  And BBQ.

We’re soul mates is what we are.

Sadly, a trip to Disney, the beginning of school, and about 5 batches of chocolate chip cookie dough brownies have caused me to fall off of my health plan as of late.

I’ve put on at least 10 5 pounds this past month and I’m really starting to feel it.

Plus, now that I have some additional free time during the day and cooler temps are on the horizon, I’m thinking about getting back into really running, like on the street.  Baby Dog Daughter will make a great sidekick for something like that.

Last time we tried that she decided to lay down, in the middle of the street, half way through our run.  No coaxing, yelling, threats, or sweet talk could get her up.  I had to tie her to a post so I could run home and get DudeDad to come help me carry her lazy butt home.

But, maybe if we like work her up to it.  And start slow.  And keep it short.  And tie a piece of steak to my backside for motivation.
