5 Awesome & Easy DIY Projects for Your Home

As made by me.

Never mind that, in truth, I am not much into DIY projects.

I wish I were.

I secretly stalk all of these DIY and house design peeps on Instagram and pine over their home decor. And then I sit on my mini van couch and eat popcorn while I watch Heroes and wish I could be better.

And, I have all of these grand dreams of buying an old house and remaking it from the ground up.

Or like, just changing the drippy faucet in my guest bathroom.

Because basically, same thing for me.

Changing the faucet in my guest bathroom is as overwhelming and unlikely of an idea for a project for me as making over a 100 year old house.

Because my DIY game is sketch.

Accept for when it isn’t.

From time to time I create something so epic and shockingly functional that people, real people who are not my mom or my spouse, actually appreciate my efforts.

Like just a couple of weeks ago when the editor of The Today Show Home section sent me an email all like, “Hey girl, I peeped your amazing cork board project online and I wanted to chat you up about it. Like totally wanted to have you come into the studio and do a version of it for us live on air, but we figured you’re probably busy somewhere doing a dope art installation or just making over a 100 year old house and whatnot, so an email interview will suffice.”

Okay, it wasn’t really like that. At all.

But, she did reach out and she did interview me based solely on the photos of the cork board wall project she saw on my blog.

And not to brag or anything, but in my world, that cork board is right up there with 100 year old house makeovers. It just is.

Kinda like the super hero dresser that accounts for at least 9% of this site’s daily traffic.

And the Lego table, which for sure accounts for like another 3% at least.

It’s been awhile since I busted out a DIY project –maybe I will change the faucet in my guest bathroom.

In the meantime, let’s reminisce.

5 DIY Posts Any Mom With a Hammer and a Hand Can Do (okay, you don’t really need a hand I guess, but the hammer is nonnegotiable)

The Superhero Dresser

It was picked up by Buzzfeed and Apartment Therapy. Just one would’ve made me do the running man in my kitchen, both of them was just showing off!

The Lego Table

For a time, this was my biggest referrer from Pinterest. Totally made me LOL because I figure people would click over, read that post, peek around for more inspiring ideas and then be grossly disappointed.

The Reupholstering Tutorial

Technically, it was less of a tutorial and more of a this-is-how-you-do-it while singing the Montell Jordan version of that song and also dancing. I am the first to admit that me and actual directions other people can actually follow aren’t a match made anywhere good.

The Kid Tent

DudeDad tried to drag this out to the curb for bulk trash day. I threatened to record him and tell the Internet on him. He put it back.

The Corkboard Wall

I think this one is the most useful and timeless of all. The Dudes can enjoy this one for the rest of their times in the home and I am excited to find all of the things they pin to it as the grow tall enough to reach the higher sections of it. I think I’m going to actually paint on a growth chart too.
