If you’ve been following us on Instagram and Facebook recently, you may have heard the big news: we are building a Ryan home!
We are so excited to be on this adventure with our family, but there are so many things to think about and consider and do and plan. And then there is the waiting. So much waiting.
I’ll admit, we were not entirely prepared for this experience when we began pursuing it earlier in 2017. Some of it is old hat -this is not our first experience with home ownership, in fact, this will be our third home purchase, but the process of working with a builder from start to finish is entirely new to us.
Before moving to our current home, we owned a small townhouse closer to Washington D.C.
When we made the decision to relocate to this space, we weren’t in a position to build. We were a younger, smaller family in 2006 -before Dude 1 went to school, before Dude 2 had molars, before Dude 3 was even born. Plus, we fell in love with this neighborhood and, at that time, the choice to build a home here wasn’t really available.
We are so happy we stumbled into this place though. We love the neighborhood, we love our neighbors, our school is amazing, and we have been happy here.
It is our home.
When we purchased in 2006, we knew then that we planned to move again. We anticipated growing out of this house in many ways, but we also knew that, should circumstances change (housing market crashes for example), we’d be able to stay here comfortably for many years.
But, as time marched on, and people got bigger, and home equity began to grow, we started to realize that a change would make sense.
We have expanded our family (hello Dude 3 and DudeDog). We feel more secure with our income. We want a space that better fits our needs as the family we have become.
Which somewhat explains why we decided building a Ryan home made more sense than purchasing something already available in our current neighborhood.
There just weren’t many options that made sense for us in terms of size, location, and price.
And, OH MY GOSH I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS KITCHEN!
And this morning room where there is plenty of space for a table where the whole family can actually sit and eat together…
And the closet, and the driveway, and the garage, and the floors, and the way there is a wooded area right next to our property that is full of mature, beautiful trees.
While there are other credible builders in our area, we decided building a Ryan home made the most sense for us because we loved their models and floorplans, we liked the location and price point, and they could provide the most suitable delivery time for our needs and desires.
We are hoping to be moving into our new house shortly after the start of next school year and I hope you will follow us on this journey.
Starting with a model home tour!
