Last week, before the whole camping bit, The Dudes (and Mimi) and I hooked up with a ton of our DC Moms pals and headed to downtown Washington D.C. for a super fun Kleenex Field Trip to the National Museum of Natural History!
We live within an hour of D.C. but rarely bother to go down there and enjoy the sites.
I mean we used to go when we first moved here, but ever since we moved to the
boonies suburbs of the suburbs and added another Dude to the mix we sorta don’t go much anymore.
Because it’s far.
And the little one likes to cry.
And think about, and beg for, and demand, and eventually resort to falling on the ground in protest for snacks.
Making museum goers hate us.
So we’ve not gone recently.
Which is so sad!
I mean there is just so much knowledge and joy to be had by visiting our nation’s capitol.
And #1 is a huge history buff like Dumb Dad.
So, when this came along I bit the bullet, planned for someone to take out the puppy, packed my bag to bursting with snacks and went to the museum for the day!
And, of course, The Dudes had a blast.
Checking out the butterfly garden…
And learning in the the discovery center…
He swears he heard a guitar and a dinosaur inside the shells…
And the forensics lab (#3 asked me if there were dead people in there, and really, I guess there sorta are!)…
There were only a few moments of intense torture over snacks!
It was a stinking hot day, but I made them pose for some outside the museum shots anyway. I really am that evil.
Thankfully, #2 decided to up the awesome of my photo with his it’s-freakin-hot-out-here-face…
Getting to experience this all helped me remember how important field trips are to kids and their entire educational experience.
With all of the declining school budgets around, we are fortunate to live in an area that, with the help of extensive parental backing (I paid $10/kid for some of their field trips last year), can still provide a few out-of-school learning opportunities for the students.
The #Kleenexfieldtrips program is a way to get more kids out on more field trips to more awesome places! Their competition is affording schools the opportunity to win a $5000 prize to help fund field trips for their students.
Join them on the Kleenex Facebook page and sign your school up today!
