2011 Resolutions. How to Be Good.

Happy New Year!!!

Yes, yes, I know.

It was like two days ago or whatever.

But I was too busy getting drunk in my drive way ringing in the new year with friends and family to make an appearance here in cyber space.

Except for maybe a little half-drunk Tweeting I may or may not have done on New Year’s Eve Night.

I don’t know.

I think my account was hacked.

I know for a fact that some crazy soon-to-be three year old jacked my dance floor.

Here’s a little Kid Mambo as evidence…

Answers to your video induced questions:

  • Yes, he’s self trained.
  • No, he doesn’t ever hurt himself.  Not badly, anyway.
  • Yes, he ends most every dance session with a burp.
  • Sure, you can get the robot timer toy.  It’s not cheap, but totally worth it.  And, Pylones is seriously one of my favorite sites on the Internet right now (we have the Race Car Balloons too!).
  • And, thank you, I too think he gets all of his awesome from me.

Anyway, like the previous year, all that is behind me now and I’m looking forward to 2011 with joy and excitement.

Followed closely by a chaser of remorse (at having to say goodbye to another year and start a new one older; blech) and apprehension (at whether or not I’ll be able to continue to rock so very hard everyday; it’s exhausting you know).

I’m what I call a disillusioned optimist.

I try to be upbeat and positive.  I face every situation wanting to believe the best, but I know I could just as likely get struck by lightening/a bus/a rouge bullet from a drive by shooting gone horribly wrong.

Sounds silly and unlikely, but not entirely impossible, thanks in part to my healthy dose of perpetual bad luck and poor gross motor skill.

However, I’m well aware of how defeating such thoughts can be when you’re trying to be all kinds of awesome for your kids and yourself.

So I’m trying and have deemed this year to be all about goodness.  No, greatness.

Don’t worry, I’m not just gonna hog up all of this goodness for myself though.

That would be mean.

Instead, as a way to live an entirely more positively great existence, I’m planning to spread it around a little.

I just think it’s so not fair that I get to wake up so greatly awesome everyday when so many other people don’t.

It just isn’t.

So my journey to improved greatness will be shoved down your throats shared with readers in an honest so you can laugh and authentic so you can laugh harder way.

Consider it my way of giving back (because I totally am).

Yeahright.  I’ll be lucky to stick to these “resolutions” for a week.

So, how do I intend to spread some super good awesome around this year?

Let me count the ways…

1.  Doing good.  Like actually doing good stuff for other people.  The Dudes and I are joining a revolution.  It’s called the Boom Boom Revolution and it’s simply about doing good.  Consider us “Secret Agents of Altruism” (you know I love being stealthy!) out to change the world one good deed at a time.  Or something all feel goody and memorable like that.  Point is, come 2012 we are gonna be one big, happy, do-gooding family, which is not really the point, but you know, added bonus!  And, I have a master plan to force you convince you to help me, so stay tuned!

2.  Looking good.  Because after everything that happened last year, I sorta owe it to BFF, Dumb Dad, my entire family, some of my friends, Stacy, Clinton, all of the What NOT to Wear crew, my boss, my neighbors, the girl who works the counter at Dunkin Donuts, the McDonald’s drive-thru guy, pretty much everyone who has had to see my slouchy boots, fleecy pants, and hideous split ends, to not get all hot messy again in 2011.  Plus, I gotta do it for me too, ya know?  As backwards as this sounds, when I look good, I feel good, and when I feel good I don’t drown my sorrows in sugary-sweet-fat-dripping-heaps of culinary pleasures.  So yeah, inside and out, Dumb Mom’s gonna be smoking hot-mom-goddess-ish.  And, expect a new feature to accompany this awesome too!

3.  Being better.  At what I already do.  Particularly with regards to my photography.  And, just how does the best photographer in the world someone even get better at photography?  I’d argue that the first step is practice.  Followed closely by challenge.  So, I’m doing one of those 360 thingys (snapping daily photos) , which I promise not to bore you with everyday (but if you wanna watch you can check me out on Flickr).   And, I have major plans to hopefully-if-I-don’t-forget-or-get-sidetracked-or-lazy to redo my photography website and update it WAY more often this year as well fingers crossed super tightly.   Most importantly on the photo front, Wordful Wednesday is getting an upgrade thanks to our old friend and founder’s desire to make a comeback!  What’s that mean in lay terms?!  Angie is coming back!  We have decided to host the weekly meme together to allow us both to enjoy your posts even more (you would not believe the guilt over not being able to visit a hundred blogs every week!), and to allow you even more clicks over to your own blogs (visit and link up with both of us so all of our readers can enjoy your shots, too)!  And, I’ll still be Tweeting my weekly faves so be sure to join us every Wednesday Tuesday night starting this week!

Think three resolutions is enough for this Dumb Mom.

What great things do you have planned in 2011?

Head over to the Dumb Mom Society and share why don’t ya?!  It’s a fun place full of awesomeness, and no one wants to be left out of that!

My plan is to get more organized this year. I feel like my life is spinning out of control in a sea of junk and toys. For real.

Being organized is like 93% out of my reach. Every time I feel like I’ve done it, I add another task I have NOT time for and it throws me off again. I’m Dumb like that.

I love that term, too! Even when I’m drinking wine, I’m never happy about the level in my glass. :)

I’ve popped in here a few times the last year and hope to be back more in 2011!

I love this post! First blog I’ve read in the New Year and it made me laugh. Success. By the way, I also am I’m what you call a disillusioned optimist. I think you should coin the phrase. For me, it’s a perfect fit. Happy New Year!

Score! Making people laugh is like my mission in life. Thankfully, because I’m not really all that good at much else!
