I am a Dude Mom.
It is a life that I was fully unprepared for and completely unaware of until I sewed up my uterus and decided that this was gonna be it for me.
For some reason it didn’t feel like I was living a Dude Mom Life until I made absolutely sure that this was gonna be our starting (and finishing) 5: Me, Dumb Dad, and a house filled with maleness thanks to #1, #2, & #3.
Burned down the baby making factory and then I got to thinking.
Naturally I focused first on the sad parts…
Never gonna help pick out a prom dress (at least I hope not). Never gonna walk anyone down the aisle. And, never gonna see my daughter become a mom.
And then following a pretty intense blaming-Dumb-Dad-for-his-stupid-Y-chromosomes session I realized the awesome…
I’m never gonna have to help pick out a promo dress (or spend all day tromping around a mall looking for one, only to have to go to another mall, and possibly another, with a crying perfectionist in the seat next to me). I’m never gonna have to pay for a wedding (um, score!). And, I’m never gonna have to annoy my daughter by nagging her about choices she makes as a mom (what, they all do it).
So many positives!
I’m even grateful for the loud noises, the flying jump kicks, and the bodily function based humor that permeates our household. Because if it’s missing, then so are they.
And, no one wants that. Okay, maybe sometimes, but not permanently, just for a few hours or a night or five so.
In an effort to connect with other Dude Moms to create a happy little place where we can share our experiences as moms of boys with no girls thrown in to break up the crazy (seriously, you can not imagine how different my life would be if #2 were a girl), I’ve been sharing the awesome on Dude Mom Monday.
Lovely photos of Dude Mom life submitted by readers who get it…
They are great.
And so are their blogs.
Here are 10 more written by fellow Dude Moms who know what life is like being the only female in a household of Dudes (the dog doesn’t count, especially now that she too has had her lady parts removed)…
BList: Dude Mom Lifers

1. The Daily Dribbles. Dude Mom to two little Dudes. Wife to one big one. Best part about being a Dude Mom? That if you hang through all the “boy” layers (stinky feet, dirt, burps, farts, etc.), once you peel them back, they are the sweetest, most tender-hearted little beings ever.
2. Life With My 3 Boybarians. Dude Mom and trophy wife extraordinaire, she also specializes in taking awesome photos and making blogs look rockstar. She does good work.
3. The Mommy Mambo. All Dude Mom to twins plus one! She’s a great bloggy buddy (code for she leaves good comments!) and a fun Dude Mom too (code for she’s been know to let her Dudes paint themselves with pudding). Her Dude Mom Life is the best because… having all boys is being smothered in sweaty hugs, burping kisses, dancing with dirty cleats, and holding snotty hands while heading to the restaurant that I, the Queen, get to pick for dinner.
4. Mama and The Dudes. Because she calls her Dudes, um, Dudes just like I do. And because she has the same name as me. And an awesome blog about life with big haired twins. I don’t have twins, but I have 3 Dudes with super big hair (well, the older 2 have taken to cutting theirs on occasion). We’re like almost the same person only she’s like cooler and skinnier and stuff different!
5. Fighting Off Frumpy. My girl Rita has been down with pBd (OG pBd, hollah!)since the beginning. She’s a frump fighting mama who does a pretty awesome job of looking smoking hot without even trying (or so she says!), and I love her and her Dude Mama blog so friggin’ hard!
6. Faemom. Another oldie, but goodie (no, she’s not old, but her blog is, I mean not old, old, but like experienced). Loved “Fae” (it’s not her name, and I actually don’t even know why her blog is called that) since I started blogging in ‘08. Dude Mom to 3, just like me!
7. Dreawood. I first “met” 3-Dude-Mom Drea long before the idea to write a blog ever came to me. I stalked her great photography skidizzles in shame, hiding behind my IP address, via Flickr and her blog. Later she found me because of my somewhat shameful appearance on a reality TV show. She asked me to join the She {hearts} It team. I said hells yeah. And the rest is history! Best part of Drea’s Dude Mom Life: …the closeness my boys share… the bond of being brothers… and the hilarious fun they bring to our home.
8. Marital Bless. Her littlest Dude did it for me. Yes, her writing is great and she really seems like the nicest person ever, but in all honesty it is her smallest little man who helped her make it onto the BList. Because for reals, the kid rocks the biggest smile I’ve ever seen on the face of a 3 month old baby human. It’s like he came outta her uterus with a happiness he was hired to spread around. So, he’s doing it. And, she’s capturing it perfectly.
9. Froggy and the Mouse. Determining factor on this one (aside from her general awesomeness as a Dude Mama of course): when I went to her blog to check out her latest posts, she actually had one up about being a Boy Mom! I mean, hello omen. I’m not one to look fate in the eye and slap her face. You shouldn’t be either, so go on over and check her out (you will be rewarded with a really funny all-the-way-dude photo for your troubles).
10. Our Crazy Boys. Pretty sure Becca is the Dude Mom I identify with most. Something about the dirty bathrooms fun I see in her blogs about her boys just reminds me of my awesomeness life. What she’s loving about Dude Mom Life: Knowing that every single day will be different and unexpected because as a Mom, I’m a girl. I don’t know about boys. I’m learning something new every day!
For a list of other Dude Moms (some of which have made previous BLists for other reasons) please check out my Dude Mom Lifers tab up top. And, if you’re a Dude Mom (moms of ONLY boys) feel free to leave a comment so I can check you out too!
I’m happy to find your blog and this list now. I wish I had seen it two years ago!
I love those pictures! And can completely relate to them! I have 2 little dudes (and yes, I call them that daily) and I love it!!!!
Love your list. I’m a dude Mum to eight dudes.
I am a dude mom as well. 7 year old and 4 year old.
This is such a great list of blogs. Thank you for taking the time to put this all out there for us Dude Moms. I have three little guys so I can attest to us being a special breed of woman. It certainly is time for us all to unite.
Hey there!
I have 4 little dudes. 4.
infant twins? Check.
toddler adopted from Ethiopia? Check.
and their oldest brother (getting ready for kindergarden in the fall).
4 boys arrived in our family in 4 years. (hence the name of my blog: four under four)
booya! ;)
Thanks for being a proud Mom of boys.
I’m a mom of 4 dudes (age 12,7,4 and 1)…and LOVING it ! Boys ROCK !
I stumbled across your site on Pinterest, and can’t wait to read more. So far, you are cracking me up. I’m off to explore your blog…
I’m a mom of one boy……..and a girl who acts like a boy. ;) But I love them equally, even if he is more effectionate. Love Love!!
Lynn
Aw, love this! I’m a dude Mama too…just found out that we are expecting our 3rd (and final) boy! Yes, I’ll admit that last week I went through lots of that same thought process…a little pink and glitter would have been a fun change of scenery. But, my boys are beyond excited to be getting another brother, so I’m embracing the thought of 10 more years of potty talk and stinky feet!
I so LOVE being a dude mom. Nothing better in the world.
I love this so much! People always ask me “Are you hoping you have a girl next?” And while the answer is yes, I would be just as happy to have another little dude. The bond between brothers is something so special that I would love for my first born to experience. I’m so excited to check out some of the blogs you listed!
Thanks for this list! I am the mom of only one very small dude right now. Since we may have a second kid that might be a girl, I don’t think I belong on a Dude Mom list just yet. But in the meantime, I will read you and all these other lovely blogs to help me deal with being the only one in my house who does not laugh at one’s own farts.
Another dude mom once told me this reason why having a son is better than having a daughter: “you only have to worry about ONE penis and not EVERY. PENIS. OUT THERE.” Amen to that, sista!
Amen sister. I have to worry about 3, but still, fewer.
That’s HILARIOUS!!
I SO love being a Dude Mom. What a great post to feature all of us :)
One of the positives for me? Not dealing with the PMS and cycles. Or god forbid, cycling up with one of the girls. Whew.
How about not having to have the “talk” about the cycles. To think that I’d have to tell my soon to be 10 year old about all of that like NOW just blows my mind. He’s not ready. SOOOOO NOT ready!
IM A DUDE MOM!! :) love it. and I love that you stalked me and then I stalked you! we both are rockin stalkers of dudes! haha.
LOVE IT! What a great idea. I’m off to see some of the mamas on the list. Im with Becca, I need a t-shirt. I too am a Dude Mom – I’m a mama to four boys under 7.
Sweet! Dude Mom shirts are actually coming soon! In the works:)
So fun! Some of my favorite “Dude Moms” on that list and more to check out! :) I’m a dude mom too with just two little guys here! :)
Awesome! I have some great reading in store thanks to all of the new Dude Moms I’ve met today!
Dude moms rock. I believe I’ll be getting a tshirt made with that saying sometime soon… :)
Oh I want one too! Great idea! : ) Me thinks I need to hit my sketch pad and work out a fab design!??
Yep! I’m actually going to start selling the Dude Mom Lifer shirts soon! Working on a super cool look for them:)! Ideas greatly appreciated!
Love it!
OG pBd fanatic in the hizouse! Thanks for the shout-out, my friend. :) Dude Moms ftw! OMG LOL! BBQ!
I have no idea what it would be like to be a mom of all dudes… or all gals. I’ve got one of each, and I grew up with one brother. Sometimes I envy that brother/brother and sister/sister connection that people talk about, but at least I know how awesome it is to be sister/brother.
Yep, I grew up with one younger brother and I swear I had no idea what this Dude Life was gonna be like until I started living it. I figured, kids are kids, but it’s not even a little bit like that. It’s like being in a guy’s locker room every day of my life. Probably some would say it’s because I gender-ized them (or something). I say it’s just cause!
Hey, what do you mean the dog doesn’t count? I put a chick flick in the DVD player and the rest of the family scatters, but my “daughter dog” hangs with me every time ;)
Yes, Baby Dog Daughter is often my biggest ally. She loves her “me time” too and pretty much only gets a few moments of quiet when The Dudes are asleep. She can’t pee in private either:)
Thanks! I already grabbed the badge and put it on my page. Love this. It’s so fun hearing about what others love about being a dude mom!
I’m a dude mom too and I love living in my crazy, loud, silly, smelly house with my large, medium and smallest loves. Oh the things they give me to write about! I love that you posted all of these blogs and I will definitely be checking them out.
Thanks a ton!
Jenny V
They are all super cool and I love how many more Dude Moms I am meeting today! So fun!
Ohmygosh, I love this list! I found you via the twitter, via Mama and the Dudes. I’m totally a dude mom. I’m not quite as settled as you though… My second dude is only 4 months. Anyway, I just love all the stinky, yelling, “I want garbage trucks on my birthday cupcakes” chaos of boys. I appreciate all these ladies appreciating the boy. Rock on and thanks. You’re now in my reader :)
PS your boys are the most handsome little dudes!
Yeah! Love meeting new Dude moms! We are debating having a Lego party or going to the Spy museum for birthday this year. It never goes away, it just changes slightly!
Woot woot! Thanks for the shout out! We’re currently going through black eye phase….at this house. And I’ve been assured by a bunch of other moms of dudes that it’s only going to get worse!
Yes! We went through broken bone phase. And now we are going through charlie horse phase. It never ends.
So totally honored to make the list! Awesome. Really. Thanks for the great intro!
You deserve it! You are like one of the most fun Dude Moms I know!
I’m a dude mom, and I love it.
I don’t love having to tell people that I mean it, Yes, I mean it, when I say I am fine without a daughter.
Because it happens at least once a month…someone says, “WHat???NO DAUGHTER? So sorry…”
Really?! I hear “are you going to try for a little girl?” a lot. To which I reply, “Ummm… have you met my youngest yet? There’s no room for more kids – girl or boy- after he came along!”
Yes! I get “bout time to try for that girl, eh?!” Because all of mine are 3 years apart and since #3 is currently 3 people are always asking when the next one is coming. Never! It’s not like I have to have a baby every 3 years for the rest of my life, right?!
Yes! you have to stop somewhere!!
Mom to 2 boys and loving it!
I’m a dude mom to 3! :) But I think you already follow me…I’m just not cool enough to be on your list ;)
Actually I’m cooler than that…I’m on your lifer list ;0)
Yes you are! Pretty dang cool!
I’m a dude mom! If only having one boy counts.
A boy is a boy, that’s what I say! I added you to the blog roll!
