I do most of my shopping online.
Sure, I love spending an afternoon roaming the aisles of Home Goods or TJ Maxx with my mom, but when it comes down to real purchases that I make to keep my daily home life functioning at a reasonable price, most of what I actually buy comes courtesy of the Internet.
From Amazon, specifically.
I blame Amazon Prime and it’s ability to get things to my doorstep in a couple of days without the burden of shipping fees. And the fact that they sell everything. For reasonable prices. Without the need to put on a bra or pants.
I spent the weekend going over my Amazon purchases for tax purposes and, while I’m gonna plead the 5th when it comes to disclosing how much money I actually spent on the site in 2017, I would like to share some of my awesome finds with you.
After all, I’m kind of an expert when it comes to what to buy on Amazon.
What to Buy on Amazon: My Top 15 Purchases of 2017
Best Small Appliance: Dirt Devil Vibe
Hands down this stick vacuum is the best small home appliance I have ever owned. It makes keeping the dog hair off of my hardwood floors and vacuuming my stairs a breeze. The suction is great and, even though the cord is a bit short for my liking, I love that it doesn’t have to charge. I’m terrible with items that requiring docking and charging.
Best for Comfort: Memory Foam Pillow
We purchased this memory foam pillow for Dude 2 for Christmas. He has been SO happy with it. This Amazon reviewer sums it up nicely I think.
“I LOVE this pillow! I suffer from migraines, sinus issues, and frequent neck and shoulder pain. I had been spending my nights rotating between a thick, hard pillow and a thin, soft one that I would bunch up to put under my neck. And was waking up every couple of hours on a nightly basis. On most mornings I would wake up with pain in my neck and shoulder. Since I got this pillow I have managed to sleep through most of the night several times and do not have pain in my neck and shoulder upon waking. It also helps with the sinus issues because once I am in a good sleeping position I do not toss and turn and end up in a position that causes my sinuses to become more stuffed up. The only problem I am having is keeping my husband from swiping it before I come to bed. He suffers from chronic back pain and “tried it out” one evening. I found him sleeping flat on his back with his head in the middle of the pillow and did not have the heart to wake him up to reclaim the pillow. He slept in one position the entire night, which never happens. The next morning he said he slept better than he had in a long time. Looks like I need to order another pillow soon!” -Maggie, Amazon Reviewer
Best Home Cleaning Item: Floor Sweeping Slippers
These floor sweeping slippers are one of my favorite home purchases of the year because they make cleaning as easy as getting a glass of sweet tea from my fridge. Okay, not really, but they certainly make multitasking a breeze. I am weird about walking barefoot (I NEVER do it), so I found these and I wear them around the house while I go about my daily tasks. At least some of the dog hair gets picked up.
Best Kid Room Buy: Metal Bed Frame
This metal bed frame is super easy to assemble and so stylish for a teen boy’s room. I love that it has wood slat supports so you don’t need a box spring. For under $150, you really can’t go wrong! We also snagged this double mattress for the bed and it was delivered easily to our front door rolled up into a box.
Best Home Décor: Tufted Fabric Headboard.
When we settled on our new home, I went online the same day and purchased this tufted headboard for our room. It was the first item delivered to our house and I love it. The color and quality are both great, and it was so easy to assemble. All of the parts were enclosed inside of the headboard itself for safe, easy shipping.
Best for Streamlining Mornings: Breakfast Sandwich Maker.
This breakfast sandwich maker makes making breakfast sandwiches a breeze. I make them in bulk and wrap them for the week. Even on the weeks I don’t get it done, this sandwich maker means that if I leave the ingredients together in the fridge, Dude 1 can make his own sandwich quickly in the morning before school. It makes having a filling, nutritious breakfast as easy as having a Pop Tart.
Best Kid Gift: Rotating Sky Night Light
Dude 3 uses this sky scenes night light for soothing every night to fall asleep. I love that it has different color and scenery options and that it is corded so no need for scrounging up batteries repeatedly.
Best in Electronic: JBL Waterproof Speaker.
Every male member of my family has one of these portable speakers in his room (DudeDad keeps his in his man cave in the basement) for music listening. The sound quality is amazing, it pairs easily with whatever Bluetooth device you use, and it is super portable. Dude 1 takes it to the kitchen to use while he does his chores, Dude 2 puts it in his backpack so he has tunes while he bikes around town, and DudeDad takes it to the front yard when he washes cars. BEST gift idea I’ve ever had.
Best Travel Buy for Disney Trips: Disposable Rain Ponchos
Hands down, these rain ponchos are the most useful travel item purchased for our Disney trips. Everyone knows it rains in Florida and sometimes, when you’re at Disney World, those rains can come on suddenly and have you rushing into a gift shop to purchase an overpriced, Disney logo poncho. NEVER happens to us because we always travel with these super inexpensive, bought-in-bulk, disposable ponchos. I just order a box of them before we leave for Florida and we are always ready for a pop up rain storm in the park.

Best Travel Buy Island Edition: Waterproof Phone Pouch
These waterproof phone pouches are perfect for beach vacations. They are great because not only are they waterproof so you can take your phone in the water for some cool shots, but they also keep the sand out too. My kids love using these when we travel so they can keep their phones safely by the pool or on the beach.
Best for Emergencies: Portable Car Battery Jump Starter
This portable car battery jump starter definitely comes in handy so you’re not stuck on a low battery. It also can be used to charge your other portable electronics (cell phone, iPad, etc). This Amazon reviewer said it best…
“Great product. Saved my butt on several occasions. The carrying case fits perfectly in my glove compartment. Easy to use and the flashlight comes in handy when you gotta jump your car in the dark. Works instantly jumping my battery on my Acura TL. Don’t worry about dropping it because it has a strong rugged case. Also works great charging your phone, iPad, and whatever else you want to charge.” -Katherine, Amazon Reviewer
Best Clothing Item: Playtex Bra
This Playtex underwire bra is the best bra I’ve ever owned. Super supportive and crazy comfortable, they’re also not too rough on the eyes. I’m not sure what else you need in a bra, but for me, this style has it all.

Best Educational Item for Kids: Hot Dots
We purchased the Hot Dots pen and math flash cards to help Dude 3 conquer his division facts. The vocabulary one is sitting in my shopping cart for purchase so he can use it when we go on our Disney trip next month. He enjoys using it and I love that you can use it to work on so many different subjects.
