This is me on the red carpet for Disney’s Christopher Robin Movie world premier.
Looking like a snack.
And now, after a whirlwind three day, two night trip to Los Angeles, I am exhaustedly typing this from the lobby of the Sheraton Universal while I await the shuttle to take me to the airport for my red eye flight back home.
I miss my boys.
I miss my bed.
I miss my dog and my husband and my comfy sweats.
I even miss my time zone!
I have all kinds of plans for long showers and even longer sleeps when I finally tuck myself into bed some time tomorrow night.
But, right now, the desire to sleep is outweighed by the desire to share all of the most excitingest (that’s a Winnie the Pooh word) things from the most excitingest event I have been to in a very long time.
When I received the email inviting me to come out to Disney Studios in California for the Christopher Robin movie premier and press junket, I was pretty freaking shocked.
Even with 10 years of blogging and a ton of amazing opportunities under my belt, this is an experience I had yet to have.
Which explains why I legit ran, full speed (well, full speed for me) up my stairs and slid, Tom Cruise Risky Business style, into my bathroom screaming at my husband while he was in the shower.
He was not as enthusiastic as I believe he should’ve been, but what does he know?
I mean, it’s not every day that you get invited to come out to LA and be a part of the Disney red carpet event and press junket (aka interview the stars from the film time) for a feature film.
I know that.
So yep, I was feeling myself a little bit that Tuesday evening.
Naturally that emotion was almost immediately replaced with a pressing need to barf in my own hands because, OMG I AM GOING TO A DISNEY RED CARPET EVENT and PRESS JUNKET!
Fast forward a few weeks and I’m here to tell you that I came out of the experience unscathed, and now I’m so excited to tell you all of the things!
Unfortunately, that’s not how this works and there are some super top secret, saved-for-later details I can only tell you if I kill you.
Sooooo, we’re going to have to wait on those.
I am gonna tell you what interviewing celebrities, screening movies, and strutting the red carpet, like the high class housewife I always imagined I’d be, was like.
And by strutting please know that I mean cautiously walking down the red carpet, smiling so hard my face hurt, while also trying not to trip over the front half of my gown and pummel face first into Ewan McGregor’s crotch.
Don’t worry, that glamorous life hasn’t gotten me, I know what life is.
I Went to Disney’s Christopher Robin Movie Premier and Here’s What Happened
I got to explore The Hundred Acre Wood.
You know, the scaled down set version of it.
From what I heard from more experienced members of the Disney movie premier press, Disney doesn’t really do many of their premiers at Disney Studios. Probably they wanted to give me an extra special experience, it being my first time and all.
Regardless of the inspiration for the location selection, it allowed Disney the freedom and opportunity to create a wonderfully immersive experience for guests. They created a set that took you straight to the heart of the Hundred Acre Wood where we were able to enjoy Pooh approved honey treats, and a visit from some of Christopher Robins’ favorite furry friends.
And watch the movie.
In the theater with the people who actually made the movie -writers, producers, directors, actors, the film crew, all kinds of people who worked to get the film from an idea to the big screen were in the audience with us.
You can check out the Christopher Robin trailer for a glimpse of what we saw…
I saw a lot of different celebrities.
Of course the talent from the movie was in attendance.
But did you know that movie premiers often attract other local celebrities as well? So, in addition to standing in awe as the main cast of the movie walked the red carpet, I also saw Angela Bassett with her kids (she is tiny, and gorgeous too), Tori Spelling and some of her children, John Stamos and his wife, Jenna Ortega, Kyle Richards and her daughter. Teddi Mellancamp with her husband and daughter, and Allison Sweeny with her daughter too.
It’s just like you see on TV.
Only louder. You can immediately tell when a celebrity hits the red carpet because the news media camera people begin to shout at them, “HEY! EWAN! LOOK OVER HERE! LOOK AT ME, EWAN! ONE MORE! ONE MORE EWAN, YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL! AND I NEED ATTENTION RIGHT THIS MOMENT OR I’M GOING TO LOSE IT!” Okay, so they don’t say that last bit, but that is the exuberance with which they approach this whole thing as they all are vying to snap the perfect picture.
They do that the entire two minutes or so that the person is in the “okay to yell at them space” and then they calm down and await the next victim cast member’s arrival. It’s all very weird to an outsider, but the actors, are clearly used to it, and so very gracious.
And it’s more than that too.
Usually there is a pre-party, or a post party, or even both involved with a premier. I got to be a part of the pre-party event for Christopher Robin so, once everyone made it down the red carpet, we were allowed to enjoy other fun events, mingle, eat, drink, and have a good time on the Disney Studios Lot. It was so fun to see the celebrities in attendance enjoying the evening with their families and we even had opportunities to chat with them a bit.
But, you can’t be a total fan girl.
I mean you can, but it feels weird if you do.
The celebrity guests and the film talent are at the event enjoying it like regular people with their kids. Did I want to bum rush Angela Bassett and be all, “OMG! YOU’RE TOTALLY LIKE WAAAAY TINY, BUT SO ADORABLE AND YOUR GUNS, GIRLFRIEND, FLEX ON ME BECAUSE YOU ARE KILL. ING. IT. ALSO, I’VE ALWAYS WANTED TO like LIGHT SOMEONE’S CAR ON FIRE AND WALK AWAY WITH NEXT LEVEL SWAG. OPPORTUNITY HAS YET TO ARISE AND I’M TOTALLY NOT CUT OUT FOR BEING A PRISON BAE, BUT LIKE, YOU PUT THAT IN ME. POWERFUL, SO POWERFUL! OKAY, LET’S BE FRIENDS!
It’s creepy. And, I’m a lot of things, but I’m not creepy.
Plus, there were a lot of opportunities to naturally interact with the party guests without having to be creepy. In fact, one of my fellow bloggers and I got to go on a private tour of Disney Labs with Teddi Mellencamp and her family and Allison Sweeny and her daughter.
Just hanging out, learning about cool Disney technology with a soap opera star and an actual rock star’s daughter who is an actual Housewife of Beverly Hills on a Monday.
You know, no big deal.
Christopher Robin hits theaters August 3, 2018.
