*Today’s post is brought to you by Crest toothpaste and true love. All opinions are my own.*
I love hearing meet cute stories about how couples stumbled into each other’s lives and fell, unexpectedly, in love.
Or, at least in curiosity enough to exchange numbers and see where things could go.
DudeDad and I don’t have a story like that.
In fact, I can’t even say the first time I met him was very pleasant.
It wasn’t horrible or anything, but there were no sparks or moments or even slight indications that we would be married some 20-odd years later with three kids and a dog.
Our story began my first week at college.
My roommate and I decided to hit up a freshman welcome reception one afternoon. It was being held in an outside area at one of the nearby apartment complexes and she was hoping to “coincidentally” run into her crush, an old family friend she knew from back home, who lived there.
We did.
And, he had his roommate (my husband) in tow.
I say they were there trolling for freshman.
He says they were there trolling for free food.
No matter how you put, they were trolls and I’ll admit, after a couple of minutes of awkward standing around in relative silence, I wasn’t super interested in getting to know either one of them.
The feeling, based on his behavior anyway, was largely mutual.
He mostly ignored me and I mostly stood there sweating in the California sunshine, attempting to balance my steaming hot meat plate in one hand and a stack of papers I probably didn’t even need in the other.
He ate. I stood. It was very underwhelming.
And, since it was “the old days” I didn’t even have a cellphone to pretend to look at, because cellphones then were for one thing and one thing only: short call that wouldn’t eat too far into your minutes that you’d have to pay extra.
So, I was stuck there sweating while our roommates exchanged pleasantries their parents would approve of when they called to check that they’d had an opportunity to connect.
At some point, he decided to leave, he grumbled some sort of salutation, and I plopped into his seat to devour my food without another thought towards the dude who clearly had better things to do than entertain some thirsty freshman and her sweaty friend.
It was the worst.
I’m sure I looked as lame as I felt and it’s no wonder that we didn’t develop a friendship of any sort until months later when we found ourselves in the same class.
Several weeks of doing South American history homework together and taking breaks to challenge each other to vicious rounds of Mortal Kombat on the PS1 brought us closer together, and the rest, as they say, is history!
It was about as far from a meet cute as one could get.
But, imagine meeting your spouse while shopping in Target.
For Crest toothpaste.
I mean, it sounds nearly too good to be true –to stumble into a guy, with such obvious good taste (hello, he’s shopping at Target!), and attention to personal hygiene.
Those are like top two on pretty much any “people you might want to date” list, are they not?
Has good taste, appreciates the cuter things in life, knows a good deal when he sees one, has a Target Red Card, brushes his teeth… what more can you even ask for?!
Crest toothpaste recently received a Facebook message from a couple who shared that this is exactly what happened to them.
They met in the toothpaste aisle at Target, fell in love, probably brushed their teeth with Crest several hundred times over the course of their relationship, and decided they needed to have Crest party favors at their nuptials on October 6th.
Crest was happy to send plenty and they also decided to surprise them with a unique painting done entirely in Crest toothpaste (WHO EVEN KNEW THIS WAS A THING?!) by artist Cristiam Ramos.
Cutest meet cute of all time.
Target is exactly where I go to find things I love. Maybe not a husband (since I’m good with the one I have at the moment), but other things like toothpaste?
Totally.
My current toothpaste love is Crest Gum & Enamel Repair.
I love that it helps prevent and reverse gingivitis. I love that it helps repair weakened enamel. I love that it helps me have healthier gums. And I love that it is $2 off right now through October 27th at Target.
Looking for love?
Head to Target and see which Crest toothpaste –Crest Gum & Enamel Repair, Crest Gum Detoxify or Crest 3D White Whitening Therapy – line is the love match for your teeth and gums. All three products are on sale, $2 off, at Target now through October 27th with the Target Cartwheel app.
