Longest title ever?
Yeah, I know. And, it felt pretty lame when I typed it, but in my sleep-deprived-because-my-stomach-decided-I-needed-to-puke-all-night haze, I couldn’t be bothered to care.
And also, I wanted you to get your mind right for the awesomeness of this post.
When I was doing a little background work for this on my Hallmark homies, I started researching them (and by researching, I mean typing Hallmark into Google and reading Wikipedia followed by the about section on their site) and discovered that they are the perfect company to be featured in my All American Family Summer Adventure series.
Sadly, I didn’t get to go there and see how the cards are made first hand, but I did discover that the founder, J.C. Hall, launched his business in 1910 at the ripe age of 18 with nothing more than a shoebox or two filled with postcards.
A young entrepreneur with a dream that has since grown into a multi-million dollar, family (his great grandson is the current CEO) business; not much more American dreamy than that, right?!
I know a 4 year old entrepreneur-in-training who would find this particularly amazing.
It’s really not all that spectacular to 10 year old girls though. But wanna know what is?
Meeting one of your all time favorite celebrities because your neighbor-pseudo-mom is cool like that and likes to hook you up.
This is my sweet, pretend daughter…
We’ll call her D-Money for her protection (and because that is what we really call her).
When I got invited to the Text-Bands Demi Lovato concert presented by Hallmark I immediately thought of her.
And how, every morning on the way to swim team, I join her in singing “Give Your Heart a Break” in the car.
It’s awesome and I don’t care how loudly my Dudes groan over the torture performance.
I was initially only going to take her with me because I knew I could count on her to enjoy it, and then I showed #1 Demi’s photo, and he pretended to not get all hot and bothered by it, then shrugged and said, “Yeah, I guess I’ll go to that with you so you don’t have to go with D-Money by yourself.”
Um, okay Dude, whatever. Don’t try to act like you didn’t take one look at her and think hotness.
After much anticipation and a whole bunch of discussions over what we were going to wear (D-Money & me, not #1, he wore what he always wears: shorts and a random graphic t-shirt), concert day finally rolled around.
I was largely unenthused because it was on the exact day that I returned from a whirlwind trip to Type A Conference in Charlotte and I was beyond exhausted from getting my party on networking like a boss. Plus, it was a million billion degrees outside and I was sweating like Mike Tyson on fight night.
But, I’m not even going to lie, I had SOOOOOO much fun!
We got to test out the cool soon-to-be-released Text Bands while watching a private, acoustic concert with Demi…
And then the kids got to ask her questions. And take pictures with her while I stood by and looked, um, shiny…
I did get to talk to some awesome mamas who actually read pBd, not because I pay them, just because they like it…
which, had me feeling pretty awesome too.
We finally went into the main concert venue for the big show and Hot Chelle Rae was there opening for her!
I peed my pants a lot little.
Okay, not really. But, I did freakin’ scream and cry like a Serbian tween at a Michael Jackson concert.
I’m not even kidding you; I was standing on my chair and jumping up and down with my kids.
I know, I know, I’m too old to be jockin’ a teen band so hard, especially since I actually use words like jockin’ in my daily vocabulary.
But honestly, I didn’t even care. And, to the likely horror of the surrounding concert goers, I sang those songs word for word, all shouty like too.
And, I even wore a Text Band during the entire thing so I could bump fists and blow up the spot with the people sitting all around me.
I’m 12 like that sometimes.
What’s got you feeling all Wordful this week?!

*Today’s post was brought to you by awesomeness, boy bands, moms who act 12 from time to time, and Hallmark’s Life is a Special Occasion program. I received the tickets to the concert, the text bands, and an awesome experience courtesy of Hallmark. And they give me cash for my posts too. They do not pay me to embarrass my children in public, I do that to get back at them and because I think it’s fun!
Might I say that you were looking smoking’ hot in that striped dress?
Did you also read that during the great depression, Hallmark never fired one person? They are in KC. There’s a free museum.
I didn’t know you were in Charlotte, I can almost throw my panties from here. You’re gonna have to start thinking entourage/groupies. I can’t do all the heavy lifting in this Stalkership. I bet you’re gonna tell me you were there the same time the girls band was there, too.
I’m mad jealous. The girls would have loved to attend that event. Funny toy or no funny toy. And Demi was sporting her own “heat-induced” style. Did someone get her a water bottle?
You’re awesome!!
This post had me smiling and enjoying the night out with you in a short span of time! Oh.. my youngest daughter would have flipped out to be able to go to something like that too!!
That sounds like a lot of fun!! I will totally go to concerts with my daughter as soon as she is old enough too.
Your pretend daughter is adorable! And, love the nickname..until I had kiddos I was K-money!
Looks like a great time!
(And, how in the world you have 66 links and only 19 comments…that makes me have the sads!)
Okay, I’m feeling super old because I had to look up “text band” and Demi Lovato. :) I do love me some Hot Chelle Rae though. Glad you had so much fun! #1 and D-Money are so lucky. And you are, too, of course. :)
What an awesome experience!
How fun! I love going to concerts. I am going with my husband to his geek convention and I am excited because Bon Jovi is playing the welcome party/concert!
What an amazing experience!!!!! WOW!
Demi Lovato is like some kind of freak. It’s not normal to be that beautiful. It’s not fair either.
Looks like a ton of fun. Miss the days of going crazed oat a concert. I may or may not have climbed over 5 rows of chairs at a Tim McGraw concer to get his autograph. Didn’t get one but I did touch his leg. My night was made. I was 28, never too young to have fun like a teen.
I cracked up reading this post. I have that Michael Jackson concert video from the 80s where the Serbian tweens were being carted off on stretchers after passing out from hysteria. Dude #1 and D-Money are so lucky you know how to act like a 12 yo!
Glad you had fun too.
There is nothing wrong with going bananas over teen bands. I do.
Wait…
Serbian tween. Your comic wit completes me.
And D-Money is the luckiest and bestest pretend daughter around. She’s adorable.
We are heading to that concert in a few days, and I may have bought a Hot Chelle Ray tshirt to wear there. Because I may be a little obsessed with them. Just a little :)
SO fun, and I love your dress!
I must not let Cady know about this. She would be so totally jealous. Plus it would ruin the image she has constructed of me being on the “it” list ever since we got to go to the Brave pre-screening. That must not happen.
You peed and cried like a Serbian teen at a Michael Jackson concert? Hilarious! lol
So what is a Text Band?
Yep, that’s my play-pretend-granddaughter looking cute and grown up. And, why didn’t I know you let CASA De Dummies over there call you D-Money? So glad to have you, you are a sweet addition to the family.
You know what I love about all of your posts? You LIVE life. You have a blast. All the time. Love it.
Only the coolest people use jockin’ in everyday speech, duh! (Keep telling my oldest daughter she’s jockin’ my style). Looks like you had a really good time and I’m so glad you met my friends who are your friends and maybe we can be friends (sorry, Puffy slipped in there).
“D Money” – I love it! Looks like you kids had lots of fun and I love that dress on you. I expect to see you in it in a few weeks when I get to hug you again! ;)
