Dude Style. FabKids, Hip Clothing for Cool Kids.

A couple of years ago, this photo of Dude #3 showed up in a Buzzfeed post.

Something about cool kids and being cool (keep scrolling, he’s number 16).

It was a really strange parenting moment.  My first thought was: Finally!  Other people see how dope my offspring is.  Mom score!

And then, I read the comments. Nasty things from troll-ish people that are always empowered by the Internet to do evil’s bidding.  They said it was sad that people (like me) made kids (like mine) do things (like dress nicely) for our own interest.  They accused us (me) of forcing our kids (him) to be something they’re not, for gain, or fame, or er, I don’t know magical prowess.  All things I’ve not achieved since my kid was named amazing by one of the Internet’s most read sites.

Probably because none of it is true.

My kids pretty much wear what they like.

#3 spent a few months attached to a tutu.  #2 rocks the loudest sneakers on the planet despite the fact they match nothing in his closet.  And he hasn’t worn a pair of jeans in, I don’t know, all of 2014 for sure.  And, despite my encouragement to the contrary, he spent a couple of weeks last summer wearing a suede front vest with vigor.  Even my eldest has his fashion quirks, vowing to only wear long sleeve shirts purchased from Hollister (they’re the softest inside or some such).  As much as I abhor going into that store and getting  a teen spirit induced migraine, he lives in those things so I suck it up and buy them.

I allow them to dress for comfort; in what makes them feel good.  They kick it up to awesome as they see fit.

That being said, when FabKids reached out about sending us a complimentary outfit* to review, I spent a strong hour clicking through the site trying to find the perfect look for #3.  I was going to go with one of these…

I couldn’t narrow it down though, so before placing my order, I decided to run it by him (his fashion sense vastly surpasses my own).

He choose a different outfit entirely, because, of course…

I was skeptical.  Harem pants? For Dudes?  They looked like leggings sort of, with a baggy crotch.

Only when his outfit arrived and he climbed into it, I knew he had made the right choice.  Like always…

It is a perfect fit for the funky dude style that he pulls off effortlessly.  He loves that they are soft and flexible (unlike jeans) for jump kicking and such.  I had to actually steal them in the dead of night in order to wash them.

I love that the have a drawstring, or well made, and provide an alternative to sweat pants (I am so sick of sweat pants) for kids who are actively shunning denim.

Curious about FabKids and how they work? We got you…

3 Things You Need to Know About FabKids

1.  They match the outfits to your kid’s personal style.  Fifteen minutes is all it takes to se up your account and customize it to fit your kid’s preferences.  Rather your kid is athletic and lives in mesh work out pants, or has a thing for MC Hammer, FabKids has gear to bring their personality to life.

2. It’s a monthly subscription service.  What’s that mean? Your kid gets a new outfit every month.  That’s 12 outfits a year in case math ain’t your jam.  But, purchasing is optional; there’s no obligation to buy (see below).

3.  It’s affordable.  Your first outfit is just $15 and you get free shipping too.  Subsequent outfits are $29.95 and you can skip any month you want (just log in and do it by the 10th of each month and you are in there like swimwear).  Plus, you aren’t limited to just the one outfit FabKids selects for you; you can buy as much as you want.

*We received an outfit (as pictured) from FabKids, free of charge, for the purposes of this review.  All opinions are my own and his jump kicks are being patented.

My son hates jeans, and lives in sweat and track pants. Much to my chagrin and the expensive pairs of jeans gathering dust in his dresser.

And as always he looks amazing jump kicking in everything that he wears! Why haven’t you achieved fame and fortune from this?
