Summer weather is upon us and families are always looking for something fun to do outside.
We all know that finding activities that are going to be engaging for everyone in your family, cost efficient, fun, and not overrun with tourists in the D.C. Metro area can be a challenge.
But, what about a fishing trip?!
Did you know that you can take your kids fishing without even really having to leave the area?
No long treks to the mountains, no hours sitting in traffic on 95 South, just a visit to a watering hole in your town could lead to an afternoon filled with fun.
Take Me Fishing, an organization dedicated to bringing a love for recreational boating and fishing back to American families, is bringing the perfect answer for today’s busy, on-the-go, urban families to summer: Off The Hook.
These family friendly fishing events will be popping up at bodies of water across the nation this summer in order to help families discover the fun in fishing without having to plan a time consuming, expensive getaway.
And we get to enjoy one of the first events, right here in the D.C. Metro area with a day of fishing in Virginia.
Fishing in Virginia: Off the Hook Fishing Event in Fairfax Station
This Saturday and Sunday, June 8th and 9th, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., Take Me Fishing will be hosting their pop-up learn to fish event at Burke Lake Park Marina in Fairfax Station, Virginia.

It’s a great way to introduce young people to fishing, encourage them to try more outdoor activities, and inspire a love of nature and conservation that has been lost in younger generations who haven’t had the opportunity to learn to cherish the beauty of a day on the water.
We already enjoy fishing as a family and rarely pass up opportunities to drop a line in the water…
It’s a great way to get my dudes to spend a little time in nature, disconnected from friends and Fortnite, doing something that they love with the people they love being with the most.
And, while I don’t think they are about to become the next great anglers, I love that they have learned so many things about wildlife, waterways, survival, and our ecosystem just by spending time outside with a line in the water.
Want to get your kids excited about fishing?
Let’s go fishing in Virginia at Burke Lake. It will be “Off the Hook”!
We hope to see you there!

Awesome, thanks for sharing! That’s 10 minutes from me, so I shared the event details with our cub scout den (who had been discussing wanting to do a fishing event in the near future).
