When I think of lace I think of those little doily thingys that my grandmother used to put all over her house for décor.
Or whatever. I mean, what were those for? I used to think they were coasters, until I put a sweaty can of coke on it and she yelled at me and shooed me out of her sight.
Anyway.
Lace has not made a for real appearance in my fashion repertoire since my Easter dress circa 1985.
But, it’s sorta making a stylistic come back, and not just in grandmother’s living rooms everywhere.
It’s been seen on the pages of some of my favorite fashion magazines too. This one made it into Glamour’s “Help Me Choose What To Wear To The Kentucky Derby This Weekend!” article. Not that I’m going, but still, I LOVE this dress and could easily wear it someplace I actually am planning to go…

And even hot celeb mamas are busting it out…

We all know I’m no Sofia, but still. This looks hip and cool and not at all grandmama-parlor-ish.
So, how can a rockin’ mama with a human body incorporate it?
5 Easy Ways to Rock Lace Without Looking Like Your Grandma’s Sitting Room
1. Just use a little. Start with an accent here or there. A pair of lacey shoes…

Or a cute lacey clutch…

Or even just a hint of lace on an otherwise lace-free-and-totally-adorable outfit…
Do able and not even remotely doily-esque.
2. Layer it on. Not ready to rock a head to toe knee lace get up? No worries. Hints of lace can be fun too!
3. Wear it on your legs.

Personally I prefer to do so with underwear. And a skirt or a dress to cover up with too. Like this…

But, whatever floats your creepy little boat is fine with me.
4. Go with a neutral color. I love the subtle color of this dress. And the peplum accents. Those are “in” right now too. And, for a boxy-12-year-old-boy bodied chick like myself, they add curves in the perfect places. So, something like this could be fitting for when I’m hitting, um, I don’t know, something fancy I’ve yet to be invited to…
5. Just go for it. I rocked my lace number this past weekend while on stage as part of a live show I was involved in (don’t worry, I’ll tell you all about it soon). I got a number of compliments on it and none of them had anything to do with my reminding anyone of their grandma’s settee. I’d consider that a score even though you can’t really see it in this photo!
Cute! Like, seriously CUTE!
That green tank outfit is behind fab!
(Who knew?!)
That green tank reminds me of something Madonna wore in the 80’s. And what? No lace gloves?
I love lace, although i tend to still get my Easter-dress vibe in it.
I want to do some jean shorts with a lace insert DIY
LOVE lace especially in that teal dress and skin tone pump. Not sure I could ever pull off the leg look though!
hmm… the tights are kinda creepy to me… love the black heels though..
I can’t get over those tights sans anything else! That’s truly a visual that I fear is going to stick with me for too long. But I do really like that first dress (and yours). Off to pour a glass of wine now and try to stop laughing. Happy weekend :)
cute! love the black dress…
Ack! That first teal dress is gorgeous–as in “I want it now!!” And yeah, on the lace tights–for some reason, I bought and wore a pair for my mother’s funeral? Kind of made me feel like hooker, but really worked for me that day ;)
Are those supposed to be pants or tights??? WTH?
I do like that lacy green tank though. I’d wear that layered with another one underneath so it wasn’t so…. see through!
I got a free pair of underwear coupon from Victoria’s Secret a month or four ago. When I finally made my way to the mall to actually get them, I could only choose from lace. I’m not usually a lace wearer outside of say a frilly topped camisole. The lace is almost always under my clothes (now that I think of it, ALL of my camisole/tank tops for under blazers or shirts, whether cotton or silk(ish) have lace at the top). But these underwear were all lace and normally I’m all like nope, too itchy, but these. were. gorgeous. And soft. And I may have given my husband the “it’s on when we get home” look when I walked out w/my little pink bag.
I am in LOVE with that jeans and white blazer outfit!
I LOL’d at “whatever floats your creepy little boat.”
Cute dress!
