Wordful Wednesday. Friday Night Lights.

Football season officially started in our home town this past Friday…

friday night lights

Ignore the empty stands; that’s the visitor’s side.  The Bears side was packed.  Like, we-had-to-sit-in-the student-section-because-most-grown-ups-can’t-handle-the-shirt-less-body-painted-hollering-boys-and-the-screechy-girls crowded.

I’d forgotten how small town-y it is where we live.  I’d forgotten how much I actually liked that. I’d forgotten what it was like to sit in the bleachers, surrounded by friends, and family and cheer on the hometown team.  I’d forgotten how awesome it was to be asked for my student ID to get into a high school football game.  Or, anywhere.

Friday Night Lights helped me remember.

One day The Dudes hope to be a member of this team.  The little two at least.  They are already in the feeder program…

I figured it would be a good idea to let them see what all of that looks like as you get older and move through the ranks.  Plus it was awesome to see all of the families there doing something together-ish.

The Dudes had so much fun.  Even though #1 doesn’t play he enjoys going to the high school games for the community element (aka walking around the stadium with his friends pretending to NOT look at girls).  #2 probably gave 61 high fives to other similarly dressed players (he didn’t know many of them personally, but he knew he was one of them).  #3 got in the car when we skirted out at the start of the 4th quarter to avoid the traffic and said, “Mom, that was SO awesome!  I’m gonna remember it forever.”  Lucky for him he doesn’t have to, because we can go back again next week.

I don’t intend to pay the adult price until someone wises up and realize that I am NOT a student, but a mom to three children of my own, one of which will be going to school there in less than 3 years.

Thank you for this youthful face, Lord.  And naïve ticket men.

Also, how may team moms does it take to get an Under 6 football team ready for their season opener?

At least 5.  And 4 coaches.  And two older brothers too.

But dang it if they aren’t adorable…

I love, Love, LOVE high school football. I almost went this week. Our current town was playing my former hometown, but James has been sick and David had to work and I didn’t. Now I’m wishing I would have went again.

Small town high school football games are the best thing EVER! We try not to miss a game either- and where we live- they don’t even charge…. so it’s the best FREE entertainment ever!

Our football games are very similar to that but I make sure to get there early so I don’t have to sit in the student section! But the home side is always packed… always!

Your son looks adorable in his gear.

OMG love #3 in his football gear. If you told me 10 years ago that I would die over my son in any sort of uniform on a team I would have laughed at you. Now I just am one proud mama! How fun you live in a small town and have such a great high school football team following. We are a huge football family and are so excited the season is here! I’m hoping we can bring the boys to a local Friday night game this year.

Ask me how many parents it takes to dress 4 and 5 year olds in their hockey gear? That’s including lacing up skates?
    None.
Because Canadians were born to put on hockey gear.
    Kidding.
It effing sucks. The kids get so distracted by other kids underwear and farting and whatnot. I need a beer afterwards.
My son loves going to his little friends soccer games. I think he likes that community element too and of course, team spirit. You’re never too young to be a fan and you don’t have to be a player to be one either.
I think it’s great that you take them even though they’re looking for chicks :)

Dang it! They are SO cute. But I have to admit, there is now way in hell I would be mistaken for a high schooler so the real question is…do you have a portrait that’s aging tucked away in your attic?

#3 in his uniform makes my uterus ache for a little boy in our house. Hmmmm…now to convince the hubs.

Sheesh they are adorable out there. I don;t know if we even have an under 6 team here, but I would join it just for the pictures!

The kids look so darlin’ in their football uniforms. It’s good that your family is spending quality time together making cherished memories.
