It’s funny how things that aren’t usually considered happy can sort of turn out that way in the end.
Dude 2 got his tonsils out this month.
Not a lot happy about that.
It hurt. A lot.
He cried. Plenty.
The pain medication wreaked havoc on his insides.
And here he is, 13 days post op, still not entirely healed (you have to wait for the scabs to come off and one is still hanging on back there).
But, we’re happy!
Happy that (fingers crossed) strep throat every 2 weeks is a thing of the past.
Happy that, as much as I love watching them swim, instead of being poolside every single morning for the past two weeks for swim team practice at the butt crack of dawn, we were cuddled in our bed, reading and talking and eating Bob Tarts (you say Pop Tarts, we say Bob Tarts thanks to an upside down box that utterly confused our newest reader) well past 8am.
Happy to have snuck in a single visit to the shore (not the really real shore, but the Chesapeake Bay shore on a super chilly summer day which we say is better than nothing) on a day that we otherwise would’ve been with some team at some sport.
Happy to have spent many nights sleeping in bed together like the good old days when he was tiny and still needed me.
Happy to be reminded that everyone needs a break from time to time and more than happy to take one.
We filled our days with picking wild raspberries at Mimi & Papa’s house, 80s movies, and chocolate chip cookie dough brownies that may actually be just as to blame for the tummy havoc as the various medications he’s been on.
I guess this is kinda what Rob Base meant when he sang that song about joy and pain.
