Figuring out how to style leather leggings can be just a tad bit more challenging for those of us with kids in tow.
We want our bottoms covered, and we want our shoes to be practical, and we want to make sure they don’t roll down from the top and create bumpy, billowy post-baby muffin tops.
For the most part.
We all have those feeling-sexy-sparkly-high-heels nights when a covered bottom and sensible shoes are the furthest thing from our minds, but in general, leggings as pants need to make sense in your mom life, even if those leggings are crafted from faux leather.
That said, the muffin-top free leggings are probably a universal want, because honestly, are you even human if having your leggings roll down so your belly flops over them isn’t a thing you hate?
No. You are not.
Which Leather Leggings to Choose
To achieve optimal muffin top roll prevention, I HIGHLY recommend the Spanx faux leather leggings.
I’ve never worn a more comfortable pair of leggings in all of my life, regardless of the makeup of their material. They are also Spanx shapewear so you can expect to have a sleek, held together, jiggle-free appearance throughout your day. They aren’t so tight you can’t breathe, but they do keep things nicely packaged.
They are also thicker than many leggings on the market to add an additional level of modesty and security many of us desire in our leggings.
They only negative is the price. You can snag them on Amazon for a few dollars less most times, but the Spanx price of $98 is often a hard pill to swallow.
I 100% believe they are worth it, but I also know everyone can’t drop $100 on a pair of leggings, even if they are the best leggings you’ll own in this lifetime.
For those not ready to pull the trigger on $100 leggings, here are is a pair for under $25 with a ton of great reviews: faux leather leggings.
How to Style Leather Leggings
Once you’ve taken the plunge and made your purchase, it’s time to figure out how to style leather leggings.
I find them extremely versatile and wear them as often to my sons’ basketball games as I do to work and evenings out. For those who need a bit here are my ideas for how to style leather leggings.
Dress them down.
Pair them with sneakers, maybe a sweatshirt, and make them work as hard as your everyday leggings, just with a little extra funk.
Dress them up.
That’s the cool thing about leather and its faux friends, it 100% can be night out appropriate just as easily as it can be swing-your-leg-over-a-Harley-and-go-for-a-ride ready. Not sure how to style leather leggings for a date night? Add a little sparkle and pair them with strappy heels for an easy night out look.
Go moto.
I have a couple different pairs of leather leggings – a camo pair and a moto pair – and hands down, the moto pair are my favorites. They make adding a little edge to my style super simple.
Even if your leggings are plain, you can get an edgy vibe by styling your leggings with a faux leather moto jacket and a pair of moto boots. Head to toe leather is a whole mood.
Pair them with plaid.
Lumberjack red is in style right now and it happens to go perfectly with leather leggings. Again this style works paired with your favorite sneakers – mine happen to be Vans – or a pair of funky moto boots.
For a day in the office.
There’s really nowhere you can’t wear your leather leggings – I rock them to basketball games for my kids as often as I do to date nights. And yes, I wear them to work too!
Paired with a bottom blocking tunic, they can make a great addition to your casual Friday attire.
Go soft.
It’s an exercise in contrasts when you pair your leather leggings with a soft top. Something about the textures makes them work together perfectly and a soft, cozy top paired with a little bit of rugged is a look I love.
Go all black.
Black on black is a cool and easy idea when you’re thinking about how to style leather leggings. If your closet is filled with black like mine is, you shouldn’t have a hard time bringing this style to life.
Try a print.
I love my printed faux leather leggings and they add a little fun to my look without trying to hard up top.
