St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a charity that has been important to us for quite some time.
I had the opportunity to visit their home in Memphis last year and learn all about their mission when I became an ambassador for their cause.
It was amazing to see first hand all of the ways they are working to save the lives of children fighting cancer and other diseases.
Did you know that children being treated at St. Jude’s never pay a single dime for their treatment?
Not one. Single. Penny.
That’s an amazing thing to give to a family caught in the clutches of cancer and it’s entirely possible because of donations.
Learning about their mission and methods first hand inspired me to get The Dudes involved in the giving process this year.
We always make donations to the hospital during the holidays, but we also strive to find easy ways to give to their powerful cause outside of that time as well.
The thing about it is that it’s just sooooo simple.
St. Jude’s and the companies that support them make finding easy ways to give a breeze. And, it’s an awesome way to spend time together as a family.
The most important thing to remember is that it doesn’t take a ton of money. Don’t be discouraged if you only have a little bit of money to give. Giving isn’t really about the amount –it’s about the action. You want your kids to learn to make space for giving in their lives. And besides, even a small amount can help.
5 Easy Ways to Give to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
Go shopping.
Lots of your favorite retailers make giving to St. Jude simple by offering the option to donate at checkout. You may not have much to give, but if you simply round up your change to the next dollar every time you shop at that location, you could really make a difference! Amazon is one of our favorite places to shop and we can donate to St. Jude when we do it.
Eat at your favorite restaurant.
Just as many retailers offer the option to donate at checkout, plenty of restaurants do too. Dominoes Pizza has donated millions to St. Jude since they became partners and all that takes is you ordering a pizza from the comfort of your couch and clicking yes to give a little at checkout.
Sell something people want.
We’ve hosted lemonade stands, bake sales, and Popsicle stands to help raise money. Dude 3is planning to use his newly built ice cream truck to sell cones for cancer next!
Have a giving party.
Everyone loves gifts, but do we need all of the things we get at birthday parties? Probably not, and neither do your kids. At your child’s next party, suggest a donation in lieu of (or in addition too) a gift. This works great with older kids who can truly grasp the power of giving and it is a great way to help them inspire other young people to give as well.
Support them on your social media channels.
Retweet their Tweets, share their Facebook updates to your Facebook page, donate via their links and share your action with your friends. Social media is such a powerful (and simple) way for people to communicate these days and it’s so easy to just click a share button on a site. Your choice to share your altruism may encourage someone else to have a little of their own!
If all else fails, just click and donate. Every little bit counts and goes to the children of St. Jude: DONATE HERE.
