I’m a pretty easy going chick.
I work hard, I am devoted to my people, and I help out in my community as much as I can.
But, there are a few things I just won’t do: run for fun, give up bacon, and use an iron.
I know, the first two make total sense, right?
Running isn’t fun and bacon is life.
It’s the last one I’ve found people feel like they need to question.
But, I am just not here for that.
I hate getting out the board, I don’t like dealing with the steam, and honestly, I’m not even that good at it. I don’t know if it’s one of those practice makes perfect actions, but like, no thank you. I don’t want to be perfect at ironing because then people will expect me to put it into practice!
Besides, I feel like no matter how hard I iron in the morning, I always wind up wrinkled in the evening. In fact, I feel like making it to lunch wrinkle free is generally an impossibility which makes the entire thing feel like an epic waste of time.
Judge me if you must (my mother does, believe me), but I have been known to wear an item of clothing just once because it was too wrinkled to respond to a good shake.
And there are fabrics that I just never buy –linen, I’m talking to you, because they just refuse to come out of the washing machine ready to wear.
I can’t fit such things into my low maintenance lifestyle, I simply can not.
And I can’t allow my children to either.
Recently, Dude 2 decided that he wants to wear khakis on a regular to semi regular basis.
Cool.
Only, uncool, because khaki pants are always needing to be ironed!
Hate. Hate. Hate khaki pants.
Modern technology, however, is changing the game.
Meet Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus…
It’s like your iron in an easy to handle spray bottle.
We tested it out on a bunch of different clothes –ones hanging nicely in the closet, ones jammed under my bed because they were too wrinkled for the light of day, and here’s what happened.
I was skeptical at first, but it totally made a difference!
I’m certain that this will enhance our back to school game greatly.
This school year I will have three kids in three different schools with three different start times. I need the process to be as streamlined as possible.
Here is what I’ve got planned to make sure that happens.
Time Saving Back to School Tips
1. Start the night before. I am not a fan of the day old sandwich, but I do try to lay out everything else in advance. That means clothing too. We usually spend Sunday afternoons/evenings prepping clothing for the week (because those gym clothes need to be washed) –laying it out, making sure it’s not dirty or wrinkled (bust out that Downy Wrinkle Releaser Plus!), getting all of the accessories lined up. Also, don’t forget the backpacks to make to make sure we don’t have any sneaky homework hiding in there.
2. Give yourself plenty of time. I have a tendency to rush The Dudes in the morning –I like to let them sleep as long as possible and then I find myself hurrying them along. It’s annoying. I’ve decided to stop it. I want to give them time to sit and wake up in the mornings because, just like a slow cup of coffee gives me life each day, I think some time to not have to brush their teeth with a waffle in their mouths will make them have better days.
3. Go to bed earlier. It’s tough. Some nights we aren’t home until after 8pm and then we have snacks and showers to manage. Our doctor said eight or more hours of hours of sleep per night is imperative to ensuring good brain function.
4. Keep calendar. Start from before the first day of school and make it one every person who can read one can access. You don’t have to remember everything on your own, you don’t have to be responsible for every move, your kids, your partner, and your calendar can help make sure you and your kids get where you need to be when you need to be there.
5. Eat breakfast. And make your kids do it too. Not only does it jump start their brains and give them energy to focus on learning, but it also gives you and your family some morning connect time.
