As my kids get older, it is harder and harder to find family time together.
You know how teenagers work – often times, they would rather be sitting in their rooms alone than hanging out somewhere they used to think was fun with you.
Dude 1 is actually pretty awesome this way. He doesn’t like spending a ton of time with his little brothers anymore, but he and I still kick it together quite often.
Daily, in fact.
One thing we bond over is our favorite TV shows and movies.
We spend time watching our shows together almost every weeknight and we try to hit the movies together when flicks on our “must see” list come out.
I love that he’s older now and that we can go to more mature movies together. I’m not saying we’re hitting up the R-rated film or anything, but we can watch a drama or a scary flick (not too scary, because no thank you!) without worrying that it will be too much for him handle.
It’s a great way for the two of us to keep our bond strong and it’s something we can share together even as it’s harder to find time to share other things.
This weekend, thanks to my partnership with AMC Theatres and Coca-Cola, we spent some quality time doing what we love: grubbing on popcorn, sipping Coca-Cola, and enjoying a movie we’ve been eagerly awaiting.
We took advantage of a special offer AMC Theatres and Coca-Cola have and you can enjoy it with your teen too. It’s an exclusive deal that gives teens an ICEE Coke and a cameo size popcorn for only $5… because everyone knows the best part about going to the movies is the delicious popcorn and a Coke (ICEE or Classic!)! All your dude needs is the coupon code and a student ID to take advantage of the offer at your local AMC. How do you get this deal, you ask? Simply download it to your phone by clicking here: amc.coke.com/blo2.
PRO TIP: Be sure to keep this offer in your mobile wallet because Coke & AMC release new offers several times during the year. The offer automatically updates when it’s in your mobile wallet!
We caught the final installment of one of our favorite movie franchises, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
I remember when the first Pirates came out and the two of us fell in love with Jack Sparrow. Dude 1 dressed as him for Halloween more than once, we became pirates with Jack at Walt Disney World, and we’ve watched every film in the series together since that first episode… multiple times.
So, when we learned the final film in the franchise would be released this summer, we penciled a popcorn and Coca-Cola fueled movie date into our respective calendars.
We ventured to our local AMC Saturday afternoon, ordered our popcorn and Coca-Cola beverages (I go Classic Cherry, he goes ICEE Frozen Coke – especially in the hot summer since it’s the perfect frozen refreshment!), and settled in for a little adventure on the high seas.
If you’re looking for a great date day option for your tween or teen, a day at the movies to see Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is your answer.
YOU’VE BEEN WARNED, IF YOU READ ON, YOU WILL LEARN THE END OF THE MOVIE -SORT OF.
The Perfect Mom & Teen Date Day with Coca-Cola & AMC Theatres:
Why You Should Go See Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales
It’s funny.
Not corny, funny. Not adult, funny. Just good old fashioned LOL funny. You and your kids will get a kick out of the banter among the characters and Jack Sparrow’s antics can always be counted on to be chuckle worthy.
It’s adventurous.
In that way that kids, and kids at heart dig. There is a quest, and a curse, and a mission to accomplish. Families will be reunited, heroes will be returned to their former glory, and in the end, good prevails over evil. It’s quite the fairy tale.
Story arches are completed.
If you have been a fan since the first episode in the Pirates series, you will be happy to note that everything works out for our boy, Will Turner. It has been a long stint of life on the ocean floor with a barnacle covered face, but once his young son teams up with a new heroine and old faithful, Jack Sparrow, things will finally work out as we all new they should 14 or so years ago when this adventure began.
The action is perfect.
Listen, kids dig action. And, as parents, we like to find a healthy balance between appropriate action and adventure, and Quentin Tarantino blow everyone to smithereens and swear heartily over their bodies while you do so. Pirates strikes that perfect balance. Yes, there is canon fire and the utter destruction of ghostly skeleton creatures. But they’re ghostly skeletons, which means there is a lot of flying about of rickety old, sea battered bones and that’s about it. Every now and then a pirate extra get obliterated, but there is little focus on them because honestly, no one cares about pirate extras -it’s Jack we care about.
