I do a Mother’s Day gift guide every year and, despite the fact that my heart is definitely not in it this year—having lost my mother less than two months ago—I know that it continues to be a day celebrated by others with flowers and cards and brunches and gifts.
In an effort to make the gift giving part easier, I bring you the DudeMom 2019 Mother’s Day Gift Guide.
A few things to note:
- This Mother’s Day Gift Guide is for moms who like nice things but have families who live on a budget.
- Which means everything on the list will be under $100.
- This is also a close approximation of the exact list I’ll give my own family when they ask me what I might like for Mother’s Day.
- Which means I haven’t tried everything on the list myself, but I certainly would like to and the Amazon reviews for the recommended products indicate they are decent choices.
- And also, many of the links below are quite possibly affiliate links.
- Which means, if you buy something after you click through, I will make a commission on that sale aka about 25 cents if my math is correct.
- Finally, my birthday is just three days after Mother’s Day this year.
- Which means, I accept combo gifts—Mother’s Day/birthday—in case you were wondering.
Mother’s Day Gift Guide: Arguably the 20 Best Things to Gift a Mom This Year
For moms who don’t have a family photo since someone was in diapers: A photo session
This is top of my list this year and I’ve informed my children that I don’t need anything else from the below list if they agree to do a family photo session without any scowling.
For Moms Who Want a Cozy Night’s Sleep: A weighted blanket.
That is also cooling. Because mama gets hot at night, but I also want to feel all cozy like a swaddled little newborn.
Amazon review: “I was really excited to find a weighted blanket to help with my sleep and anxiety. Before Luna I tried several blankets – Somnos and Serenity Engineered, looking for a blanket that had a easy cover system that was secure, closest to white in color to match my bedding and had good pressure but wouldn’t cause overheating. Serenity’s zipper system was unattractive in person and the blanket didn’t provide enough pressure. Somnos was white but the blanket was thick, noisy when moving, didn’t stay put and I was overheating.
Luna has met all my criteria with a light grey color, comfortable weight and while it does make some noise if you move it, I find I don’t move under this blanket and therefore it’s not a factor. Thanks Luna for a great product!” –Amazon Reviewer, AK

For Star Wars Loving Moms: A color changing light saber mug.
Personally, I am not a coffee drinker. I do, however, on occasion enjoy other hot beverages. Also, I dig Star Wars and think this is fun.

For moms who like living that flawless skin life: Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay
So, this looks like something you’d get off the back shelf of your neighborhood liquor store, but the over 16,000 Amazon reviews say it’s like a miracle face cream in a jar so I feel like it’s worth a try. This one in particular pushed me over the edge, “…it feels as if angels themselves have taken the time, to delicately renew my skin with the magical touch of their wings.”
If that doesn’t convince you to put this on your wish list, I don’t know what will.
Amazon review: “This product is AMAZING. It’s an official Holy Grail product of mine. I ideally use it once-a-week, and it feels as if angels themselves have taken the time, to delicately renew my skin with the magical touch of their wings. Ok, but really. I wear foundation daily, have combination and sensitive skin, and require hypo-allergenic products. I truly feel this product is a part of why it maintains week after week break-out free. I mix with equal parts water and vinegar and use the sensitive-skin time recommendation to avoid over-drying or any tenderness afterward, moisturize after and I’m good to go! I also find it works WONDERS as a spot treatment for the pimples that do happen to appear every-so-often. I love this stuff, use it often, and it still lasts FOREVER. Literally the best mask I’ve ever used.” –Amazon Reviewer, S.L.P

For moms who like to be clean: a back brush

One of my clients sent me a gift card for this right after I lost my mother. It auto-renewed and sent me another week’s worth. I was annoyed at first, because I hate auto-renewing subscriptions, but I have to admit that I was secretly happy. They make my lunch time SO much easier. I just grab it and take it to work. I know that I am going to get the perfect portion and a delicious meal with just three minutes in the microwave. Perfect for portion conscious moms and time-strapped moms who need quick, healthy, delicious meals!

For moms who like moisturized hands: L’Occitane Shea Butter Crème Gift Set
My mom bought me a set of these last Mother’s Day and I almost hate to use them because then they will be gone and I will have to get some more. Perfect thing to put on your wish list then, right?
Amazon review: “My hands were falling apart before I bought this. I used lotion and other hand creams, and whatever strange solutions my friends and family would offer me. But the cold, dry weather penetrated them all, turning my once manly hands to a red, peeling, painful, disintegrating mess. I had to dictate my Amazon reviews because my hands had become a small pile of red ash on my keyboard.
Then, one of my friends recommended Shea Butter. I had heard of it, but assumed it was just some fancy, expensive lotion that moms justify buying because it makes their hands smell nice. Like… up until now, I hadn’t spent more than $5 on a hand lotion.
But… it works! My hands feel so much better now. The red pile of ash is reforming into human hands as I write this, and I know it was the Shea Butter’s white magic. Thanks, Shea wizards!” –Asa Price, Amazon Reviewer

For moms who have neck pain: Zyllion Shiatsu Pillow Massager
And other pains too. This massager is one of the highest rated on Amazon with over 9,000 reviews. It works on your neck, back, calves, feet, shoulders, anywhere you can fit it really. It has heat and can even be used in the car—hello commute massage!
Amazon review:“Based on reviews, I ordered this yesterday. About an hour ago, I hobbled over to my front door to receive this item. Unpacked. Plugged-in and placed on my home office chair by my lower back. Ran through the first cycle and Oh My! It felt amazing. Got up from my chair after it was done. In getting up, and for the first time in days, the sharp pain wasn’t there. I walked around and rested for about 30 minutes and just started the massager again for another cycle. For the price point and for what it does … this is great. I just ordered another to use at work.” –Amazon Reviewer, Amazon Shopper

For moms who like to sleep: Coop Home Goods Memory Foam Pillow

And, it is made with good stuff, no ozone depleters, no heavy metals, no other things I can’t pronounce. Plus, the 16,000+ reviews on Amazon say it’s a winner. For moms who want to cook healthier: Power Air Fryer XL

For moms who like essential oils: UR Power Essential Oil Diffuser and Cool Mist Humidifier
It’s a two for one type thing so mom can have her essential oils and keep her skin from drying out at the same time. Somehow I lost the cord to the old one I had when we moved so I need a new one.
Amazon reviews: “I am delighted with this diffuser. It came quickly, was packed securely and efficiently, with easy to open packaging. The specs say that it runs about 3 hours on the continuous setting (it can also run intermittently), but when filled completely, I’ve found it lasts through the night. I have it set on my nightstand and it’s perfect for unwinding at bedtime (or with some sinus-clearing essential oils on a headache day.) Pros: shuts off automatically, easy to control the amount of scent, the ability to use natural scents (and blend them, if that’s your thing), and a moderate scent radius (excellent for a bedroom or office). Not as pervasive or lingering as a plug-in or candle. Cons: You can make the scent stronger by using more drops of oil, or a stronger scent, but if you like a strong scent that fills a large space, this might not make you happy. The light function is brighter than I like (so I just don’t use it).” –Amazon Reviewer, Book Belle

For moms who like to stay hydrated: Contigo Auto-seal Travel Mug
I take water everywhere I go and the most annoying thing is that I don’t have a bottle that no one else uses. I have a cup with a straw that spills every time I bend over, drenching me and my phone and my shoes and, yeah, it sucks. This bottle won’t spill or drip, has an easy to clean top (that doesn’t’ get all moldy), and keeps your drinks hot or cold for hours. All of the winning.
Plus, this review by Shawn M. is spectacular…
“This is the best coffee mug I have ever owned. bottom line: lives up to its promise. I actually forgot this mug in my office before a meeting and when I came back for it six hours later the coffee was still STEAMING. Bewildered by some of the negative comments… Why invest the time to log on to Amazon and complain but not take 67 seconds to read the enclosed instructions?? The rubber on the lid tastes funny? Wash the lid with soap and water before first use… AS INSTRUCTED. The cup overflows when you put the top on? Do not put liquid past the fill-line… AS INSTRUCTED. Yes, you just about fit an entire Dunkin XL (24 oz) inside if you go past the fill line, but this is sold as a TWENTY oz cup. So imagine that, overfilling it can cause it to overflow! Who knew? I burned myself because the coffee was too hot and/or I didn’t know how to control the flow of liquid…? Surely that’s a joke. Hot coffee is hot and this product is designed to keep it hot for a long time (which it does better than any other competing product I have tried in 2 decades). As for use… The, err, “drinking slit” (sorry, unfamiliar with technical coffee kid nomenclature) is exactly the same shape and location as that on every take-out coffee lid everywhere on earth. If you can’t figure out how it works, go to the nearest Dunkin donuts or Starbucks or freaking McCafe and watch someone else drink a coffee. It is a fairly intuitive process.” –Amazon Reviewer, Shawn M.

For moms who like fresh juice: Ninja Professional Countertop Blender
This one slides in at just under $100, but it is so worth it. I use it more than any other appliance I own and I make some killer smoothies in it. I love the portable, single serving cups. They make taking my smoothie to work SUPER easy.
Amazon review: “This review is really going to be simple. It works great and we love it!. We like the individual cups much more than we thought we would. We make smoothies in them all the time and the clean up is really simple. When we want to make something up in the bigger pitcher, it’s a breeze as well. Both the cups and the pitcher clean up easily. The power behind both of these is better than any other blender we have ever had. This was a really good purchase and we recommend it to everyone looking at them.” –Amazon Reviewer, Gator Man

For moms of all shapes and sizes, ages and interest: Time
I think most moms would agree that, more than anything we want to just spend some quality, bickering-free, don’t-have-to-fill-sippy-cups-or-make-dinner-for-anyone time with our kids. And, a little alone time too for guilt free selfcare purposes. Oh, and chocolate. And maybe wine. That is all.
It’s one of those things money can’t buy.
