This week Operation Stop Sucking resulted in a playroom makeover on the room formerly known as The Entirely Unorganized Mostly Useless Area The Dog Slept In While Chewing on Kid Toys.
Now that all three of The Dudes spend most of their day with The Man at school, we don’t need three playrooms in our house.
We honestly don’t even need one playroom in our house. No one has time to play anymore. With school, and sports, and homework, and eating and sleeping and pooping and stuff, there’s just no playing around in a room time.
How sad is that?!
Very. But true. So unfortunately true.
With all of that in mind, we decided (replace that ‘we’ with an ‘I’ and you’ll see what really happened) that it was time we officially became a quarter playroom family!
The only kid that ever makes time for toys in this house anymore is the small one and he pretty much only plays with what you see here anyway.
All of his building he does on the Lego table I made (yeah baby, that’s right) and all of his imagination he deploys on the rug just in front of it.
Other than what you see here all we need is a crazy messy storage area and open ninja practice place in the basement.
Probably they didn’t even notice the downsizing. Besides, what we lost in largely unused playroom, we made up for in used-daily-NASA-should-be-jealous Homework Command Center…
It’s the perfect place for all three of my school going Dudes to sit, away from the distraction of the television, off of the sticky kitchen counter, not all up in my grill, to do their homework after school.
We set up a supply area in the center so they have easy access to the things they need most (pencils, paper, rulers, crayons, and those big mama jamma erasers they seem to require multiple times a night).
Each kid has a seat and the fourth spot is where the school computer lives.
We were in the market for a small sized laptop that they could use to do their homework so that I wouldn’t need to give up my work computer for them to complete their assignments each night.
Every year it seems the school requires more time with technology to complete their assignments. #1 has to check his teachers’ blogs and look at his text book online each night. #2 needs to access the Internet for a math assignment at least twice a week. Even #3 has web based enrichment activities that his teacher sends home for him.
Staples sent us this HP Chromebook to try out and so far it is has been the perfect solution…
It allows them easy access to the things they need (basically the Internet), it’s fast, (like, really, really fast), and even with its 14 inch screen, it’s light (will be perfect to use for traveling as well).
As much as I loathe homework, having the Homework Command Center as a designated space for learning has really changed our afterschool dynamic and reduced the amount of misplaced, forgotten about, and chewed-by-dog assignments.
And having the Chromebook at their disposal has allowed me to cook dinner, finish a work assignment, and look at the crazy pictures my ex posted on Facebook shout out their spelling words while checking the weather to see if practice is cancelled (please, pretty, pretty please) at the same time they are completing their daily homework assignments.
Multitasking like a boss.
Wouldn’t it be awesome if I had another Chromebook lying about to giveaway?!!!
Yeah it would. But, I don’t.
What I do have is a Belkin wireless router for you though!
Perfect for all of you needing an upgrade because you can’t even make it through the Holy Grail video without it buffering a bazillion times!
Want to win?
Super easy entry because I want you to hang out with me on Facbeook and help me organize the rest of this slop pit I live in love you.
*Staples provided me with this HP Chromebook and Belkin wireless router. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and they didn’t even come over and help The Dudes with their homework. That would’ve been awesome though. To see their full line of laptops and tablets, as well as wireless routers, visit Staples.com.
