I know, not on my diet plan.
But, giving up cake (and all sweets) is not something I intend to do in this life.
I’ve just decided to not eat ALL of the sweets.
Someone told me that you can live at a healthy weight with a sane mind by enjoying two bites of anything you want. Sounds good to me.
Bring on the pound cake bites baby! And yes, I’ll have two please.
I just can’t be happy without sugar in my life. I mean, probably I could, but I don’t want to. I like baking things, and then eating the things I bake, and sharing them with others who clap and cheer when I share my goodies with them. My baked goodies, mind outta the gutter please.
But, slimming down does require sacrifice and, where previously I may have just went ahead and downed the entire caramel sauced cake all by myself while The Dudes were at school, I decided that serving it smaller is better. As is waiting for them to come home and sharing it with them.
Want to enjoy some of this goodness yourself?
Duh, yeah you do.
You start with pound cake. Use your own recipe or try my lemon pound cake recipe.
Cut it into squares.
Drizzle with caramel sauce, and by drizzle we all know I mean cover generously.
I thought, this could be a less guilty treat if I add fruit to it. Sike, the fruit doesn’t help. But, preeeeety…
Cut up a strawberry, add more sauce, sprinkle on some cinnamon-sugar mixture and that’s what’s up…
Carmel sauced cinnamon strawberry pound cake.
That’s. What’s. Up.
We shared it on the porch after school because we could.
Then, in an act of sheer insanity, we had pound cake French toast for breakfast the following morning! Don’t judge me, it’s made with eggs and I served turkey sausage on the side. Go on, clap and cheer!
Before you go, here’s how I rock caramel sauce, in case you’re in the mood.
Super Easy Caramel Sauce Recipe
1 cup brown sugar (you can use white if you want to but it won’t be as thick so slim down on the liquid)
1/2 cup of butter
1/2 cup half and half OR water OR almond milk (I use the vanilla flavored one sometimes for funsies)
2 tsp vanilla
Put it all in a pan on the stove and boil it while you stir for about 5 minutes. Don’t burn it, that would make it suck. Pour it on your pound cake bites. Or your pound cake French toast. Or your ice cream. Or, heck, your finger.
Thank you! I am in the same boat. Working on losing weight but having no intention of giving up cake. I like this idea. I can cut down on the proportion of cake and add fruit and even sugar free cool whip to make it more satisfying.
Yum, now I want this and I can’t have it…..boo!!!
Great sweet treat for our little monsters. It seems like this recipe is super easy to prepare and super yummy! This will be a great way to make kids snack time a fun time.
