Just like that time period following the Civil War, when America had to attempt to put their lives back together following the bloodiest war in our history, I’ve been working to reclaim what was lost in Dog Destruction of 2013.
After another quick trip to the super sized hardware store (which is quickly becoming one of my favorite places), I put my ruined shelf back on the wall.
Dumb Dad took a couple of hours out of his Saturday breaking off all of the stray pieces of glass from the ruined snow globes. By hand. Because he loves me.
And, because I cried.
He convinced me to keep even the broken ones because they are part of our story, broken or not, and the fact that the evil beast Dumb Dog ruined them is just another chapter.
Or something.
It sounded convincing and sweet when he was saying it while I was blubbering over the whole mess.
I didn’t really have time to consider what it would look like all busted out and broken when I put everything back together…
Less pretty. It looks so much less pretty.
It needs some additional awesome to get it back to a semblance of what it used to be.
I loved the way the moss garden added a little green and life to the area, but since there’s not much chance I will order another (that thing wasn’t cheap) I’m in the market for something green-and-living-ish to dress up the look.
Or, maybe art work would be better? Or a candle? Or, um, a pot of gold?
Okay, I don’t have a pot of gold, but I do have a Red Envelope gift certificate that is straight up burning a hole in my pocket. So, let’s start there (duh!).
They have so many cute home accessories to choose from: custom wall art, pretty candles, vintage inspired bud vases, Bonsai-Daniel-son, and tons of other cool stuff. I’m no good with choices so you’d better just tell me what you think I should get…
These are all in my budget so which will it be? The zen-making bonsai tree, a decorative candle, bud vases, a personalized canvas, or, um, these funky vases?
Full disclosure here, when I take your advice and redecorate this space to awesomeness, I intend to take all of the credit for it’s transformation. I mean, the original look was all me, I’m just too exhausted and cash strapped to recreate it without some assistance.
*Official sounding pBd disclosure: This is a sponsored post which basically just means that I’ve been compensated by the aforementioned brand mentioned to share with you why come I find them awesome. They don’t tell me what to say or how to say, I don’t even have to say I like them if I don’t want to. Awesome stuff gets mentioned, everything else doesn’t. That’s just how I roll.
Ilove the funky vases. Go for it!
The candle or the canvas. And maybe color…paint the back portion of the shelves? I know, I know, more work and money. Damn dog.
Love the canvas! Or the bud vases too but I do think something taller than the globes….a pop of color!!
The bud vases are really cute and I also like the little funky guys.
Now you’ve got me thinking. I need some green in my life too!
When we had a puppy and a kitty at the same time many years ago, our house was a disaster!! We were just married and I was trying to keep a perfectly pretty house and everytime I turned around there was a puddle of dog pee, a chair with a scratched arm, a chewed shoe. But the worst ever was when my sweet dear puppy knocked over shelf containing ALL of my beautiful wedding momentos- toasting flutes, Waterford crystal candy dish, a beautiful Belleek bud vase, and every sweet treasure I had collected from my utterly forgettable day….. I sobbed as I swept my treasures into a dust pan. I oculdn’t put them in the trash bin so I put them in a box on my dining room table. One day, I came home form the store and my new husband and my sweet 5 year old son had put all of the remnants of my treasures in to a large glass fishbowl type container and placed it on a shelf with my remaining momentos that weren’t destroyed by the beast. I treasure that container of broken bits just as much as I did when they were whole AND I get to talk about them more than I ever would have if thay hadn’t been broken because EVERYONE who comes to my home wants to know why I have a glass bowl filled with broken stuff on display. I’ve added to the items in that bowl over the last decade and refer to it as “My Bowl of Broken Memories” ….. So, your husband dude was smart to keep all your broken snow globes.. maybe you can make a bowl of broken memories????
I would be careful with the bonsai those things can be high maintenance, and bud vases with have to be filled/changed out with new buds, so also somewhat high maintenance. Although I think they are the prettiest, so if you can handle that go with the vases!
I love the bud vases! The bonzai tree is also a great choice because you need something taller than the globes. Mixing different heights is very “in”. The beast is AWESOME!! He just needs more attention (or about 6 more years to mature). Most people with great dogs have great “loss” stories (all my wood window sills are chewed up, many lost ballet slippers, too many toys to count, a car door handle, etc.
