Or not.
Summer style trends are looking quite familiar this year to those of us who were doing more than just crawling around a playroom in the 90s.
I know we’ve all heard of the wise woman who once said, “If you wore it the first time around, you don’t need to wear it when it comes around again.”
And, while I feel that statement is true in many ways, I also say, FORGET ALL THAT NOISE!
Wear whatever you want, whenever you want to, and do it because it makes you feel amazing.
Mini skirts, skinny jeans, platform sneakers, strapless bustier dresses with belly peep holes and ruffle sleeves-WORK IT.
It’s all fair game if you feel good rocking it.
Even if you did wear it in 1995.
If the 90s were your era as they were mine, you’re also in luck because the style trends that gave me life in high school are back giving life again today. And, while I know that spandex neon onesies aren’t going to make me feel like my best self today, I bet there are a few items on trend watch currently that will. And I don’t care that they were also in my closet 20 years ago.
Summer Style ’19: 90s Inspired Fashion Trends You’ll Want to Rock in 2019
Summer Style ’19: Steve Madden Slinky Platform Sandal
Remember these?!
You know you had a pair, maybe even more than one and, despite the fact that they are arguably the least comfortable footwear ever manufactured, you probably rocked them to places like concerts and college tours where walking long distances was expected and unavoidable.
Because fashion. That’s why.
In 2019 you might want to invest in a pair that you only wear to Wegmans, because 40 year old ankles can’t recover from a curb roll the way they did 20 years ago.
Just sayin’.

Summer Style ’19: Shortalls
These were cute in 1992 and, honestly, I think they still are. As long as I can get them in an XL with an inseam that hits closer to my knee and less in the upper thigh area, I am so here for them.
Because not only are they super adorable, but they’re functional too. With their should strap clasps, hey’re the perfect answer for jumpers that require you get naked to pee.

Summer Style ’19: Fila Sneakers
I feel like these shoes were made for moms—they’re sturdy, wide, and they match everything. I don’t know what I was doing wearing them at 16, but they make perfect sense now.

Summer Style ’19: Fanny Packs
Legit, I don’t know why these ever went out of style.
THEY’RE SO FUNCTIONAL.
It’s like someone just waking up one day and saying forks are no longer cool. We need forks. They’ll always be cool.
Fanny packs should be too.
Also, they changed the name to make them sound more 2019. They’re officially called “waist bags” now in case you wanted to ask for one at a store.

Summer Style ’19: Acid wash mom jeans
Teenage me should’ve had several questions when someone told me these were cute. Grown up-three babies-70lbs of pregnancy weight gain me sees no issues.
None at all.
They specifically say they’re for moms, right? That means me.

Summer Style ’19: Scrunchies
Keeping it 100, go ahead and nod in agreement if you never got rid of your scrunchies in the first place.

Summer Style ’19: Combat boots
Think of the ankle support these bad boys provide. That’s the kind of thing you need in your life when you get older.
I seriously sprained my ankle back in October of 2018 and IT STILL HURTS.
If I was wearing these on the fateful day when I thought I was on the bottom step but wasn’t and proceeded to jam my ankle bone into the concrete causing me to stumble several feet into a wall, I would’ve never sustained a career ending injury like this.
And which career you ask? The one where I walk, talk, and enjoy a smoothie at the same time. That career is 100% burned to the ground now as I am not able to trust myself to multitask in that way ever again.
Obviously shoes designed by a doctor take this into consideration.

Summer Style ’19: Birkenstocks
This level of comfort never really went out of style did it? So get you a pair.
These pink ones are total summer style fire.
Summer Style ’19: Laura Ashley
Real talk, I was never really into this in the 90s.
I didn’t like the excessive florals or the dowdy dress cuts.
2019 Laura Ashley is looking kinda cute though!
You can find a ton of styles at Urban Outfitters.
