Wordful Wednesday. Swim Team All-Star. #PCBigDay

sponsored post disclaimer

I am a soccer mom, a football mom, a basketball mom, a piano mom, a soon-to-be violin mom, and a sometimes gymnastics mom.

I am also a summer swim team mom.

Out of the house by 7:45 am every week day in the summer.  On the pool deck for practice by 8am.

Weekends are even more grueling.

At the pool for warm ups by 6:30 am.  Then four or five hours straight in the heat (or pouring rain, since that happens sometimes too) to cheer on my favorite little Dolphins.

It’s exhausting.  It’s time consuming.  It’s a huge commitment.

And I kinda love it.

I love cheering The Dudes on in their races.  I love seeing them improve each week.  I love watching them learn and perfect new strokes and dives.  I love how proud they are of themselves when they pull out their winning ribbons each week.

After weeks of hard work (by him), early mornings (for all of us), hours volunteering (mostly by DudeDad, I like to mingle), and a voice turned hoarse from screaming (that’s me, mostly), #2 had a BIG DAY in the pool.

With a time of 25.38 he qualified for All-Stars in the 25 meter back stroke!

He was so excited when he found out.  Probably at least half as excited as I was.

Biggest.  Day.  EVER.

Or, at least of the summer.

Today’s post was brought to you by Scholastic & Frosted Mini Wheats and their Big Day Campaign. They want to help you and your children enjoy lots of big days this summer by reminding you of the importance eating a healthy breakfast (Dude #2 literally eats Frosted Mini Wheats on the pool deck every morning while he waits for his turn to get in the pool) every day plays in upping your life’s overall awesome.

Let’s start out with amazing photos of the Provo Balloon Fest that are fabulously vibrant from Honey Mommy. Then Hollywood Meets The Mama; it’s an interview with a movie star and movie director for a new film (HOLY HOTNESS,BATMAN is that Shemar Moore?!). I always love to see what people are eating, and Arnebya dishes at What Now and Why. Lastly, everyone loves a good day at the zoo, and Love Life Family and then Some captured her day at the zoo beautifully.

This is commendable, all the boys’ activities, because my kids do nothing. I keep wanting to put them in something, anything, and yet. Maybe. Eventually. Maybe.

It’s a huge commitment/burden/time&money suck, but it’s been so worth it. That’s why I’ve been getting into the youth sports thing so much lately. It’s had a major impact on my boys in everything from health to academic achievement. It took me a few years to really begin to appreciate and understand it since the only sport I really played growing up was cheerleading and it wasn’t the competitive kind, it was the stomp-stomo-clap flip your hair, look at the boys kind.

My neighbors have all tried to convince me–for years!–that we should join the swim team. I look at the early morning practices, the frequent swim meets, and being tied down and can’t see the fun in it. lol. Your pics are the first time I’ve thought that swim team may actually be not so bad.

We love it. This was our fourth season and it’s just nice to have something they can all sorta do together. Same team. Next year all three of them will be in the pool and I sorta can’t wait!

Congratulations Dude #2! That’s awesome! :) I’m in absolute awe of your ability to be out of the house by 6:30 am on a summer weekend day. You’re… a better woman than I! ;)

DudeDad makes weekends easier (but shhh, don’t tell him I said that!). I’m actually a little sad it’s ending 3 weeks before school starts because we already had the wake up early and go somewhere routine down. Now they are gonna sleep and I will have to retrain them again in a couple of weeks. A smart woman would keep it going but I actually feel bad about it because they haven’t slept in a single day this summer and they don’t even really complain about it!

I’m a swim team mom, too! It is crazy — the early mornings and then the LONG super hot swim meets. But, oh how I love it, too! And my #1 made it to the finals (sounds like your all stars) for his backstroke. Swimming is a great sport for kids to be able to see hard work pay off when their times decrease! And such great exercise for them during the hot months of summer when we can’t do much of anything else outside. At least those are the 2 mantras I repeat to myself over and over as I’m waking kids up for our 7:15 am swim practices!!

It’s sad how excited I am that all star practice doesn’t start until 9:15.
