Xfinity for Comcast is it Better Than Satellite?

If only the answer were a simple one!

We were satellite TV customers for years, more than ten in fact, and then, a year ago, we switched to Xfinity with Comcast Cable.

People constantly ask us why and honestly, the reason is simple –in today’s market, of streaming from Netflix and other providers, it’s about more than just TV. TV can be gotten anywhere.

For us, it was about the extras –cable, phone, apps, amenities.

When it comes right down to it, Comcast Xfinity has better extras than the other guys. In fact, the other guys couldn’t offer me any extras at all!

Where we live, there are two options for television. When it comes to high speed Internet, the options are even slimmer. And, unfortunately, because cellular phone service is a joke in my hood, I also have to pay monthly for a landline. That is telephone with a wall plug for those of you too young to even know that life.

Go ahead, make your 80s jokes about us, we deserve them.

We discovered that paying three separate companies to provide us with those three separate services was eating away at my shoe budget. In the end it was satellite or shoes.

Shoes won.

We switched to Xfinity about 18 months ago and never looked back.

We love that we rarely have outages on our TV, we love that our Internet is pretty quick, we love having a phone that doesn’t drop calls because it is plugged into the wall, and we’ve discovered that their extras go well beyond the basics of just TV, Internet, and telephone service.

Recently I had the opportunity to visit Comcast’s offices with other local family bloggers in DC. We got some hands on demos and had the opportunity to connect with Comcast and each other over lunch as we learned more about their offerings and how our family (and yours!) can benefit from those.

5 Neat Things Xfinity from Comcast Brings Plugged-In Families
Voice command remote

I can not even explain the joy this little number gave my children. You speak into it and it makes the TV do your bidding. It is a life saver when you’re like me and can’t remember what channel the shows you love come on. It works effortlessly with the Xfinity system to help you find shows you like to watch based on your previously viewed programs and it eliminates the need to figure out what all of those 75 buttons on the remote even do. All you need is the power button and the voice button and everything else can be done with your words.

Total home security

An option we’ve yet to incorporate into our own home, Comcast offers total home security solutions that are intuitive, responsive, and able to meet the needs of today’s modern family. If home security is something you desire, and even if you’ve not considered it before, I urge you to get to know the things Xfinity can offer you. Personally, I live in a relatively safe community and, because I work from home and have a vicious guard dog on the premises, I rarely fear burglary and the like. But, their system offers so many amenities, like opening doors for locked out children, and notifications that allow you to monitor your children’s activities while you’re away, that it feels like something I want in my life. As my children age and spend more time at home alone, the idea that I can monitor them more easily provides a bit of peace. I like the idea of being able to watch them come home from school via my remote device when I can’t be there personally to ensure they make it inside safely and don’t leave the door standing wide like the barn dwellers they pretend to be at times.

Mobile access to the shows you enjoy

With our on the go lifestyle, having access to the shows we love while away from home is a wonderful perk. We can watch them when we travel so that we have access to what we want to see even when we aren’t nestled into our couch home.

Parental controls and KidZone

Even if you’re certain your son will never search for and/or watch Big Booty Bridesmaids, you can ensure that he doesn’t stumble into it or purchase it accidentally by using the password protected parental controls. You can set your controls to cover certain show types, including those with certain ratings, as well as simply preventing your children from buying movies accidentally. And, just to give you something to think about, it also works for when your mom comes over and wants to watch Steel Magnolias for the hundredth time but doesn’t realize that some of us don’t have it recorded and saved for all of eternity. Their password protection parental controls means you won’t get a bill with it purchased three times this month.

We could not be happier with our service and, difficult as the switch from satellite to cable was, we are super happy with our experience and the easily accessible amenities Xfinity provides our plugged-in family.

Disclosure: I visited the Comcast office in DC to gain insider access to their programs and offerings as part of their #XfinityMoms program. I was a customer well before I got the chance to partner with them in that way. They provided us with a gift bag for our time and cupcakes. So many cupcakes.
